  1. I'm mostly fully invested, so I ride it up and down, but I put more into the market in november, and I'm probably going to do more in february. I've been buying oil and gas pipeline companies. Beat to shit with good yields - though I didn't do a great job of picking the bottom. What are you doing?
  2. Drugs will turn you into an idiot. I guess last time it was cocaine induced paranoia too. He thought somebody was trying to break in.
  3. 15 months in prison for Boy George for chaining up and beating an escort because he thought he was stealing pictures from his computer. When your own lawyer says you acted like a drug-crazed idiot, you know you're scrapping the bottom of the barrel. All these years and he's still a mess with cocaine. Not that I should much care, but he was an out faggot when I was just coming out, and I looked a bit fey like him. Now I'm a middle aged balding faggot and I still look a bit like him (which is no longer a good thing).
  4. I've been a fan of the Daily show for years. It's helped me laugh when I wanted to just scream. I'm really curious if they'll be able to maintain without the easy target of Bush. Maybe I shouldn't doubt though, since it seems like Nancy Pelosi has been stepping up to the plate :-)
  5. Friday I get an offer in the mail from United Visa. Write myself a check on the card for up to $25K for 0% interest until october. Or, if I'd prefer, 5% until January of 2011. Now I know my credit great. I make a lot and borrow little. I recognize that if I fail to pay my bill on time all this would start bearing interest and screw me, but are there really enough people who will fuck themselves on this deal to make it a moneymaker for the bank? Is money that cheap these days? I sure hope they aren't offering it to every poor schmoo. I think I"m going to take them up on the offer, take the interest, and give the principle back to them in october.
  6. Agree, my 2 visas have 90 warranties for anything bought with them. I think it very likely that any problem would surface in that time if you have a similar deal on your visa.
  7. Given the history of enforcement by vice in Vegas as reported by many of the escorts on these and other boards, I'd be leery of that. I hope it works though. It would give me a good reason to visit sin city.
  8. A quick google of prices tells me 299 for a 26" is a pretty good price. knock another $50 off and it's hard to beat. My guess is that you're not going to do better because nobody on the other end will care enough about it to really negotiate, they'll just say send it back. Though I guess the corollary is that there's no harm in trying either. Asking for a warranty since you don't know what may have been done to it is fair, assuming they normally offer them. Personally, that's more effort than I would put in on a $250 TV. By the time it breaks, buying a new one is probably a much better deal than getting it fixed.
  9. I think the standby is www.xtube.com Though I think if you can learn to navigate gay torrents its an absolute goldmine and far, far better than any of the free sites you'll find. It's worth the effort to figure out.

    Andrew

Don't know much about his work. Just heard he was a bit of a wingnut and that he and his wife lived separately. Can't seem to validate that as I go and read obits. I guess, however, he knew how to generate buzz.

    Steve Jobs

What a shock! Steve Jobs lies and tries to control the media. Color me surprised.
  12. Windbag maybe, but I don't think Keith has done the left's equivalent of calling the 9/11 widows harpies. He's not a shock jock. If we're just listing windbags, it will be a very long list. For that you'd have to pick Al Sharpton or the equivalent.
  13. I suspect Sarah Palin is smarter than she comes across, but she needed training too. She didn't know what she wanted to say in the interview, and worse she tried to dodge easy questions. I'm not sure why. Now she's just turning into a whiny loser. Katie was an easy interview and she blew it. It wasn't Katie that ambushed her. Tina Fey's character was no worse than Biden or Clinton got. It was just funnier because it rang so true.
  14. I agree. She's a political shock jock. As long as people keep feeding her, she'll keep popping off. I ignore her.
  15. "Free societies are hopeful societies. And free societies will be allies against these hateful few who have no conscience, who kill at the whim of a hat" Who knew haberdashers were purveyors of items that not only sit on your head, but also control what goes on inside it. Why has there never been a twilight zone episode revealing their pernicious influence?
  16. If you're this kind of person, you'll enjoy it. I did. But it is a pretty bad movie. I just have a weak spot for silly Sci Fi stuff.
  17. I've seen Jason Carter too, and I'd definitely see him again. If Benjamin is in San Antonio when I am in february, I may see him this year.
  18. Strange I've never come in contact with it. I completely believe that it's common, just never in my personal experience. I personally wouldn't stand for it for a minute. The "I'm so sorry, you just made me mad, I love you baby." bullshit is just that.
  19. I've been on the internet for 20+ years. It's weird to me how as it's grown, anonymity has brought out the worst in so many. The "free market of ideas" quickly becomes a drunken brawl. I don't post there anymore either, and visit rarely. Some good threads, but I don't have much interest in wading through the invective.
  20. Well there's a vote for name recognition, or maybe just the look of her. I listened to some interviews yesterday and have to say, "girl, get some media training, it isn't as hard as you're making it."
  21. I think the problems with CIA are management problems, not intelligence problems. So putting in a strong manager while leaving the strong intelligence folks in place seems like a reasonable course to me. Frankly, I think just a change of administrations will be a big improvement so that all the agencies can move past the "who fucked up Iraq" blame game.

    Steve Jobs

Creating cool in marketing really isn't that tough, though it does require some discipline. That's the sizzle of marketing. I'm more talking about the marketing of product marketing. Figuring out what you need to do to make your product absolutely compelling. Apple in the computer space has only ever been lackluster at this as you might note by their marketshare. They've clearly found themselves as a consumer toy company, but then they lack the depth and breadth of Sony, so it's hard to call much of a record from an ipod and an iphone.

    Steve Jobs

Personally, I think Gates biggest strength as a business leader was doggedness. He just never let go and never gave up. It was windows 3.1 before anybody used it. He just kept hammering at it. That's something I can respect. I agree, though, that Jobs did really get that it was the user experience. He just wasn't great about the business/marketing. Years ago I was on the team that offered to license the Apple interface for all UNIX systems. Apple could have really become a player. They weren't interested.

    Steve Jobs

I guess he isn't on his deathbed after all. Too bad. I have an iphone and I like it quite a lot, but the cult of apple built around a guy whose ego has always outstripped his talent is inexplicable to me. I'm an old school tech guy, and I remember what a joke his company next was. The mac is great because it doesn't have to interoperate with anything. The ipod and the iphone are great products, but seriously.
