  1. You might be surprised. "The Horse in Motion" dates from 1878. OK, it's only 11 frames long and needed 11 cameras to shoot it. The first film shot on a single camera was made in 1888 and lasted 2.11 seconds.
  2. Unnecessary exertion when there's a 7-11 on every corner...
  3. That one seems to be called just "Harbor Pattaya" or "HarborLand". Its own signage says "Harbor" in English and "TukCom" in Thai (same logo as the TukCom we all know on Pattaya Tai) and it appears to be about family fun as much as shopping.
  4. It appears to be in Laem Chabang, something like a 15 mile taxi ride to Pattaya Tai. Wikipedia: Laem Chabang is a port city municipality [...] in Chonburi Province, Thailand [...] As of 2019 it had a population of 88,271. The city has grown up around the port, but also serves as a major stop on the coastal highway linking Pattaya and Bangkok via Sukhumvit Road (Hwy 3). The city is also known for hosting a Japanese retirement community with specialty stores geared towards them. TripAdvisor's "Top Things to Do in Laem Chabang" all seem to be excursions to other places. ๐Ÿ˜„
  5. Uzbekistan and Liechtenstein are the world's only doubly landlocked countries. That's why I mentioned them ๐Ÿ™‚. Of the other former Soviet states, Russia has a huge northern coastline, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are on the Baltic, Georgia and Ukraine are on the Black Sea. As for the singly landlocked states, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan border Iran, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan border China, Belarus borders Lithuania, Moldova borders Romania (and there are other borders with coastal states too.) E&OE.
  6. More likely Uzbekistan or Liechtenstein ๐Ÿ˜.
  7. FWIW The Oxford English Dictionary says: NOUN a. A member of an East Slavonic-speaking people living primarily in Russia and neighbouring countries; a native or inhabitant of Russia, or (more widely) its former empire or the former Soviet Union; a person of Russian nationality. ADJECTIVE 1.a. Of, relating to, or characteristic of Russia, or (more widely) its former empire or the former Soviet Union; inhabiting or native to Russia, its former empire or the former Soviet Union.
  8. This thread is 7 years old and this is the Gay Thailand forum. You might get better and more up-to-date information in the Latin America section --->
  9. The Malaysia always used to have a luggage room, but it's a while since I've stayed there.
  10. ... except in France, where they reverse the order ...
  11. I've experienced that on Srilankan Airlines.
  12. I'm mildly surprised ... that the Thai mafia have allowed a foreign mafia to take over their territory so easily. In a patronage-based society where networking is everything, I'd expect the incumbents to have a huge advantage.
  13. Judge for yourself. I think it's here but I could be wrong.
  14. Indeed they are both adverbs, but I think you'll find he's counting the number of V's, not assigning a grammatical gender. Back on topic, that's the first time I've seen 8 acres of southeast Asian trees described as a "forest".
  15. Sure, but for me better still is one bar with many boys, interacting with each other and the customers (and not their phones!) Statistically you have a better opportunity to find that "one boy" and the atmosphere is so much better while you're waiting for him to appear.
  16. Nobody seems to have answered this part ๐Ÿ˜‹
  17. I haven't suggested otherwise. I was replying to @Keithambrose's question "Without touching the overhead wire? " which referred to @Thomas_88's statement "if you're close to an overhead line, you can be electrocuted, even when you don't touch the overhead lines." which is true.
  18. Yes, if you get close enough to trigger a flashover. Also, it's not just the wire, some of the metalwork on top of the train may also be at the supply voltage, and depending on the system you could be dealing with anything up to 25 kilovolts.
  19. "Start 15 February 2024" if you believe the caption.
  20. That's an improvement. When I stayed in Old Sukhotai many years ago I was shocked ๐Ÿ˜ต to discover there was no night market. So where to eat? Fortunately my nose led me to an unmarked shophouse where a lady was making takeaway meals for local customers. She cooked me something quite pleasant but clearly toned down for the Western palate. She asked how I liked it and I managed to convey that I could have handled more spices, so she immediately made a repeat order with the proper degree of heat. From starvation to very satisfactory overeating ๐Ÿ˜‹ ...
  21. "The Darwin Awards salute the improvement of the human genome by honoring those who accidentally remove themselves from it in a spectacular manner!"
  22. Something else to keep is your checked baggage receipt. Some countries actually check that the bag you take away from the airport is the one you checked in. And if it never emerges from the carousel, that bit of paper may be the only proof that the bag existed.
