reader Posted December 6, 2019 Share Posted December 6, 2019 From Bangkok Post The national wage committee agreed on Friday to increase the minimum daily wage by 5-6 baht, from 308-330 baht to 313-336 baht, and will propose the rise to cabinet for effect from Jan 1. Unskilled workers in most provinces will be entitled to 315-320 baht a day. Suthi Sukosol, permanent secretary for labour, said the committee made its decision after careful consideration of factors including employees' cost of living, employers' ability to pay, and local and global economic conditions. The 6-baht increment will apply in Bangkok, Chon Buri, Phuket, Prachin Buri, Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon. vinapu Posted December 6, 2019 Share Posted December 6, 2019 I'm pretty sure it will lift living standards of working poor immensely, now wait for screams from business circles that such generous proposal will put country on the brink of recession and will lead to collapse of baht to a joy of travelling farangs. Now I wonder if Moonlight models will start demand 5006 baht instead of 5000 they wished to get so far for their company ? spoon Posted December 6, 2019 Share Posted December 6, 2019 At 336baht daily, multiply by 22days (average working day per month based on 5 day weekly) equals 7392 baht ~ rm1012. Many Thais therefore have migrated to Bangkok or the tourist resorts where more stable employment can be obtained. It depends young attractive girls and boys with good education will prefer 'proper' jobs the ones without proper education or studying and needs part time job the sex industry can be attractive option .
