Gay Thai Drama / Thai BL stories

Recommended Posts

I watched the first two episodes of You're My Sky. I'm not really a fan of the main couple. The senior is just too taciturn and I'm already a bit bored by their storyline. The soccer player who's stalking the cute med student is more interesting. Even the guy who's going to steal his sister's boyfriend is more interesting.

Is anyone watching Not Me? The YT algorithm keeps recommending it. Enchante looks interesting too

To each his own...

I am enjoying "Your My Sky", mainly due to the "supporting" couples. We will just need to wiatand see what happens with Fah and Thorn.

I find "Not Me" hard to believe; that the main guy can pass as his Twin... And "Enchante" has only dropped one episode. Seems promising.

Enchante is very promising. I am finishing ep 1. The leads are adorable and have good chemistry.

I'm enjoying You're My Sky a lot more now. I like all of the pent up sexual tension. I still find Fah and Thorn kind of boring and the evil basketball coach storyline seems like an unnecessary distraction. But the whole Dome/Vee thing has gone up a notch.

Enchante is moving along pretty well. Some folks on MDL keep complaining that the leads look too much alike, but I don't really think so. Apparently they were actually childhood friends IRL and met by chance at the auditions.

But of the three I am watching at the moment I think I am enjoying Something In My Room the most. The version on YT is pretty heavily edited which is unfortunate. They are 40 mins instead of the 60 mins that they are showing on their subscription app. There's a person on MDL who is recapping the edited parts which is nice.

Shockingly, I have seen them all! One day I want to rewatch "Dark Blue Kiss", if there is time.

Currently watching:

"Not Me", great so far!

"The Player", this is not a BL, but a real Thai Drama full of intrigues around sex and sexual orientation. I love it! With many actors we know from the BL series.

"Something in my room": This is the only real BL series I am currently watching. The ghost is cute!

From Kyodo News / BP

Thailand brings "boys' love" back to Japan with homegrown dramas

Once an importer of "boys' love" (BL) media from Japan, Thailand has now brought the genre full circle with its growing range of dramas themed on romances between impossibly beautiful young men.

Known locally as "Y series" -- a reference to the Japanese term "yaoi" that refers to works featuring homoerotic relationships between male characters -- these homegrown dramas have been on the rise following the success of the 2016 Thai BL series "Sotus".

But it wasn't until the release of "2gether", a 13-episode series about two handsome college boys who go from being in a fake relationship to falling in love, that the flame for a boom in Japan was well and truly ignited.

The show, produced by television production studio GMMTV Co, debuted in February 2020 and soon became a hit overseas due to the "stay-at-home" lifestyle brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

"One of the greatest draws (of the show) is that viewers can learn about a culture different to that of Japan, such as food and fashion," said a spokesperson for Contents Seven Co, a video licensing company that promptly acquired the Japanese distribution rights for "2gether".

Japanese television and publishing companies have also jumped on board the Thai BL train. After announcing a business partnership with GMMTV in November 2020, TV Asahi held exhibitions in Tokyo and other major cities across Japan in collaboration with the studio throughout last year.

Meanwhile, major Japanese publishing company Kadokawa Corp has been acquiring the rights to translate original Thai novels through its local subsidiary Kadokawa Amarin Co, officially launching its foray into Thai BL with the release of the Japanese edition of "Manner of Death" in January 2021.

Set in a fictional rural town in northern Thailand, "Manner of Death" depicts a romance between a forensic pathologist and a suspect in a murder case, offering a refreshing change from campus-based, vanilla themes typically used in Thai BL.

I'm still enjoying Something in My Room altho Ch3 has been heavily editing the version on YouTube which is a bit of a drag. Even though a lot of the story doesn't make much sense it's been a fun ride.

Enchante is kind of boring but Akk is gorgeous so I don't mind and there's enough gratuitous beefcake to keep me interested.

You're My Sky is petering out a bit. I still found the basketball storyline totally cliche. The other two couples have been more interesting.

I just started watching the Korean BL called Semantic Error which seems to be a classic enemies-to-lovers trope. But the guys are adorable.

I can highly recommend Semantic Error. I am through 5 episodes now. The acting and writing are very good. I didn't realize that the short guy who always wears the cap is in a Kpop boy band. Apparently the program has been doing very well in Korea and gotten lots of buzz. There are plans for a season 2 but the other lead is enlisting in the military so they'll have to wait until he gets out.

Boy Scouts was OK, but nothing special. Very much similar to their other films.

Not Me is a great series more than an action series than BL one , very interesting plot and excellent cast.

I absolutely love this series. One of the best stuff they produced so far! I wasn't sure if we should call it a BL series or not, but as it turns out it is clearly a BL and it even follows the rule that a BL couple never comes alone.

All this embedded in a very modern action series background. As usual, the pre-ultimate episode is highly dramatic, but here it is more about life/death or prison/free, not just couple or not. Can't wait for the last episode.

Full of social criticism.

In the BL universe I would give them 6 out of 5 stars, but how did they manage to get an IMDB-rating of 9.9?
