Journalists have been on the exemption list for a long time. I for one have been requesting BoyToy to issue TampaYankee journalist credentials so he could launch an in depth investigation into the terms of trade on Havana's streets but Oz has proved strangely reticent on the project. As it now stands, there are severe restrictions for Americans who visit Cuba. Americans can only LEGALLY visit Cuba if the American travels with a licensed "People-to-People tour group, licensed by the U S Treasury Department. The catch with these trips is that Americans have to keep a schedule assigned by the group they travel with, they have a tour guide follow them on the entire trip, and people can’t simply break the agenda to visit Cuba’s Varadero Beach, says Chris Sabatini, senior director of policy for Council of the Americas." There are some unethical companies that advertise and claim Americans can travel to Cuba via Canada or Mexico or another country to avoid detection for unlawful travel. Airlines and travel agents will no longer need specialized permission to provide service to you. The categories are: family visits, official business of the U.S. government, foreign governments, and certain intergovernmental organizations; journalistic activity; professional research and professional meetings; educational activities; religious activities; public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions, and exhibitions.
