Questioning the Rules....

Recommended Posts

Since speaking of the "other" site always inspires a frisky conversation, let me throw this out there....   There is currently a thread running that "questions" the conduct rules of the admins, and their enforcement therewith, and whether or not they are being followed, and if they are fair....

The truth about the rules is that "there really are NO rules" that define your tenure over "there".   The "rules" are dependent on personal feelings and your "standing" in the eyes of the admin.  And of course whether you are a financial contributor to their cause.

Because, as a member here (tartegogo) pointed out over there, the admins are NOT following their own rules as written.  Basically it's a "do as I say" mentality,  and like it "or get out"....

Yet, it IS a successful site, and members like myself, are willing to forego their dignity for the "privilege" of participating there.   My willingness has faded,  but I still try to figure out why others havent ?      Any thoughts ????

I like the other site, a lot. I think all of the forums offer something for everyone. The amount of traffic and interaction keeps my interest. I could hardly call the political forum "mindnumbingly stupid". If that's what someone sees, then they're not reading or paying attention. The lounge always has something of interest to post on, and the gallery...ahhh the gallery. It just never disappoints. The variety is amazing and (Grandma we miss you) and Adam Smith's posts are irreplaceable, but such that is life. I am just thankful that he has found a home, where I can check in from time to time, to get my daily dose of enlightenment...

That said, I personally like some sort of control. I think rules are for the betterment of the community. There are occasion when the old man goes too far,  but I don't personally see it as limiting what I post or what I see. He's deleted some threads, that needed to be deleted, and permanently banned members that most certainly needed to be banned. There is a lack of transparency as to how he goes about enforcing rules and regs, and that is frustrating, and perhaps that's a negative, but in the end, it is his site, and sometimes you have to take the good with the bad. Looking back over the time that I've been there, it is clearly a more civil place to post, and I think that has brought more traffic.

I don't expect people to agree with me...but I enjoy posting there, and I always have hope that Grandma decides to return, if for nothing else to keep Bozo, Rockymount, Kippy, and all the other right wing nut jobs in place...;) (And I would have come to NYC if life permitted.)

All I can say is that I NEVER had any problem with, or disregard for RULES, but simply HOW they are applied.  Clearly the rules are NOT the same for all members, which is the only thing I ever objected to.  And being treated  fairly and EQUALLY seems to be the current societal trend. so why not have it apply to websites you participate on, where the anonymity of it SHOULD put everyone on a level playing field ?

Unless you have been the target of constant Daddy wrath, you cannot understand how it wears you down.  So while I agree with most of what my sis Annie has said about the positives of Daddy's, for me, the negative has finally superseded ALL.....

Well yes...that's one of the big problems. But for myself, participating in the political forum is worth the price of entry. It's not perfect and I'm probably too passive, but I'm old, and shamefully find myself a bit addicted to the site.

A (only slightly) related comment: I could be wrong but It seems to me that daddy is scaling back his involvement (less reviews per day, less posts).

I am not sure if he would like to retire at some point, but I certainly would not volunteer to take over, and not sure if anyone would.

So I am just thankful that someone, anyone, imperfectly enforces the rules,  rather than no one, even if I was recently the victim of the imperfect enforcement.

Going to the other site is just a bad habit like using too much salt.  Once you ignore it for enough days your desire will fade or so I propose.

Best regards,

RA1

This recalls a characterization of the Other Forum that our @WhippedGuy gave me in a PM:

'Lot's-Wife syndrome'!

The damnable urge, e'en in the midst of fleeing therefrom, to turn back and look at the latest doings would, inevitably, expose one to such rampant stupidities and vacancies that the mind and spirit would be frozen for the rest of the day, turning one into a veritable pillar of salt!

With the horrible bill that passed the House yesterday almost unanimously and seems ready to pass the Senate just as overwhelmingly and be signed within a week or two, I'm not sure any internet site that deals with escorts or even chatters is going to be around long. Even for the ones moved offshore I think there are civil liabilities imposed.

How could that be enforced?

Well, we don't know because almost no one is covering this draconian law. Same way FISA pushed through taking away almost all our privacy and freedom.

Russiagate/Kushnergate/Guns are clogging all the corporate news funnels so that no one is aware of this. Funny how that works.

Inter-country enforcement of that kind of law is something I don't know of any precedent for.

E.g., Oz's servers here are physically located in Hyderabad (or the like), where there is little enforcement of anything.

Excepting the customary modest gratuities to the mid-level functionaries in charge of granting the usual colonial-era business lets & licenses. ^_^

Mine are all US based and I post.

I thought we were talking about owning & operating a contentious site.

Posting is a First Amendmenr right. Nothing we post here can be used against us in an evidentiary way, far as I know.

Involvement seems to be pretty broad but we won't know until after it's passed when we'll get all sorts of stories on it with discussions. Pretty scarey right now. StevenKessler on the other site is talking about it a lot but there just don't seem to be many stories yet.

Trust not the legislators, but do trust the courts to constrain the ensuing madness.
