Two best saunas in Rio and SP offers far better choices and I had much better experience there as well. The website you need for both hotels is www.axel hotels.com The first named is the original hotel - the first in BCN aimed at the gay market. It’s classed as 4* but that’s generous IMO. I haven’t stayed there in 12 years but the rooms and bathrooms were basic and service was almost non-existent. It’s more 2*-3* in my view. The location is very good as you can easily walk everywhere and see the sights, visit restaurants etc. As it happens I looked to buy an apartment in the vicinity of that hotel. It’s a smart area. I ended up buying near the second hotel named. The main difference in my view for a gay male visitor is convenience. If you plan to spend lots of time in the gay sauna Thermas, the second hotel is only 5-6 minutes walk from it. The location is decent, good lower middle-class area, residential and it’s a short walk to the stop for the Airport bus (which is rapid and cheap). You may be surprised at how early the place pretty much empties out, especially during the week. It's more an afternoon/very early evening place during the week and a not much later place on weekends. There's always someone there (one guy sleeps there) , but it can get "quiet" . At Paragonya in Zurich they have a way you can check how many are there before going but Thermas doesn't have that feature.
