Coffee Shops

Recommended Posts

Well, today's discovery was a coffee shop described as "Dose/Yield/Time Cafe", in Pattaya.    With the not very catchy branding and no signs outside, I still managed to find it, thanks to Google maps.

There was a menu with a wide choice of coffees.  Food options were limited to some crushed biscuit, which I passed on.   After waiting ages, my coffee arrived.

I think this is the best coffee I've ever had. Outstanding!

Even better than a coffee shop in Nakhon Sawan, 2 years ago.  This is the only coffee shop where I've seen them weigh the coffee for every single cup they make.

Always good to find somewhere serving great coffee, I have added it to my list. Is there much else out that way worth checking out, or was this a dedicated trip to that end of town for the coffee?

Good coffee is one thing I had trouble finding on my last Pattaya trip, I ended up settling at Dicks Cafe most mornings which was ok. I saw that there is/was a patisserie cafe on the corner next to dicks in the complex now, so that was high on my list to try when I come back.

It is and their baguettes are excellent. Breakfasted there twice and hope for more. As for quality of coffee  don't ask me as my favorites are 3 in 1 types, specially Thai own Khao Shong brand so you get the picture.

I understand coffee lovers pains of finding good one though since I'm the same when comes to a tea.

Fantastic, If their pastries and coffee are good then it's likely to be my regular for my next trip.

I'm the opposite with tea, I will take any old tea bag and have no complaints haha.

I tried the coffee at Dick's well over 5 years ago.  Perhaps I was unlucky to visit when the coffee machine was broken, but I haven't dared risk it since.

The Delices place on the corner is the best I've found in Jomtien so far.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised by the coffee at @Home bar.   Whilst it doesn't quite have the flavour found in the best specialist coffee shops, I found it to be above average and far more palatable than that served by some Thai brands.

The choice in South Pattaya is wider, with the likes of Bejamit and Gafae, in addition to the place mentioned in the opening post.

I've found that one of the unexpected pleasures of Thailand / SE Asia is the number of very nice coffee shops when they can be sought out.  Being partial to a coffee and a cake it's great to hear of these places - I've made a note of this place for my next visit.

Any recommendations in Bangkok?

Some of the staff at Meeting Place seem quite cute too, as carefully observed from across the road at Delices.   They were talking to customers when I last visited, so I've not yet spoken to them.

One recommendation in the Ari area is LAF cafe.  There was a rainbow sticker on the door which enticed me in, but seemed more of a tomboy place.  I found the coffee to be excellent.

My favourite in Bangkok is Kerk, near Chong Nonsi. Not as distinctive as the place mentioned in my opening post, but they have nice coffee that's far better than that from the Thai chains.

Many, especially Thai folk, fail to recognise that there is some excellent Arabica grown in Northern Thailand. Chiang Mai has a number of what I suppose are called 'artisan roasters' who take advantage of this crop. Bualong Coffee and Arts is one example of the phenomenon but is some way from the centre of Chiang Mai. For those who prefer 'milkie' coffees, there is some excellent raw milk available if you look around.

Yes, I have also found Northern Thai Arabica coffee to be very good.  In Chiang Mai, I have bought coffee beans at the Akha Ama cafe near Wat Phra Singh.  It's part of a chain but it's good.  There also the Hillkoff store, Changphuak Soi 2, north of Changphuak Gate, & they have a big selection of coffee beans.

In Bangkok, there's Holey Bakery on Suan Phlu, not far from Sathorn Road.  Good coffee with excellent bread & bakery items.

My latest coffee shop "find" is "Backstreet House Pattaya", which slightly North East of Terminal 21, in one of the back streets.  Nice coffee, very nice secluded premises and a well stocked bookshelf.

Most of the other coffee shops I've tried in North Pattaya have been inferior to my favourites in South Pattaya,  so it's nice to find a good one.
