Republicans look like losing

your analysis is correct - and, the Republicans had a perfect scenario to leverage major core issues against the Democrats for a historic midterm win  - except for two things:

1. The exhausted majority is sick of Trump and all things related to him

2. The election deniers & Trump endorsed candidates largely did not win - the public is sick of crazy people who have no interest in governing

The 2022 midterms were a complete & total rebuke of Trump, Trump endorsed candidates and the far-right loons of the MAGA movement.  And, it was a major victory for Biden, democracy and decent people. Just read analysis/opinion articles in conservative Wall Street Journal blaming Trump directly for midterm loss. Or, the Fox News pundits saying now is the time to abandon Trump.  It’s totally over for him & will only get worse as he flails with the coming indictments.

Turns out Americans prefer non-authoritarian & non-facist elected officials. The hatred for Trump is real, substantial & meaningful.  He will never win another election ever again. He’s a loser.

Senate for now is split 49:49. Democrats need at least 1 of the remaining 2 contested seats: Nevada most likely will go into recount, while Georgia is heading to runoff election in December. 50:50 gives democrats the Senate with VP as a tiebreaker.

House majority is achieved at 218. Republicans are closer to it with 211 current seats. Democrats at 202 need 16 more of the remaining 22. Tough, but not impossible.

House majority? If the Republicans are 218 and the other team 202 then why aren't they in power?

From CNN

Democrats will keep control of the Senate, CNN projects

CNN — Democrats will keep their narrow Senate majority for the next two years, CNN projects, after victories in close contests in Nevada and Arizona.

Retaining Senate control is a huge boost to President Joe Biden over the remaining two years of his first term in the White House, with one more Senate race outstanding that will determine the final balance of power in the chamber – and how much leverage the president’s party will ultimately have.

“I think it’s a reflection of the quality of our candidates,” Biden told reporters in Cambodia shortly after CNN and other news outlets projected Democrats would keep their Senate majority. “They’re all running on the same program. Wasn’t anybody who wasn’t running on what we did,” Biden went on.

Based on the midterm election results that have been confirmed as of now republicans have 211 seats of the 435 total. In order to have a majority they need 7 more seats to get to 218. Democrats as of now have 204 seats. They need 14 more to get to 218. There are 20 seats that have not been called for. All these are midterm election results for the house in 2023 and 2024.

Based oh the last election (in 2020) the senate was split (with democrats having a tie-breaking vote of VP) and democrats had the house.

Given the unpopularity of Biden, whom many Americans blame for inflation, although most of that is clearly due to (1) supply-chain problems from first COVID, then from China's "Zero-Covid" policy, (2) the war in Ukraine, with loss of food exports, and (3) OPEC throttling back production in an attempt to hurt Democrats, the failure of Republicans to do better should be a clear wake-up call for them. Elections are decided by independents, not Democrats or Republicans. And my feeling is that most independents are just as horrified by the antics of Trump and the GOP as most Democrats are. Independents may not like Biden much, but the alternatives seem to be worse.

Oh don’t be ridiculous. The Democrats would be considered centre right in Australia They can’t even agree on voting rights, minimum wage, or universal healthcare. The socialist tag is absurd.

Either way their country isn't great, I think they still have minimum wages there and no social security if your unemployment.

Not like Australia where some haven't found a job in 15 years and bludge off the system 😂
