CNN legitimizes Trump

In a surprisingly shameful and disgraceful move,  CNN, the formerly left-leaning news platform has invited the former, twice impeached, once indicted (so far), convicted sex ABUSER on the network for a specially "curated" Town Hall,  in which Trump will be free to spew all his angry, hateful lies and insults.

Its an unprecedented turnaround for the network, that explains the move by saying that Trump is important in the political arena,  and every Candidate has a right to have their say..

No doubt, Trump has specified that he has to "approve" every question,  and every answer will be designed to make the ex Insurrectionist look his Orange best.   So basically, this will be the Trump Show.

In giving Trump this "gift" of airtime,  CNN is basically giving legitimacy to the con man which they hadnt done before,  and I am afraid this action will DUPE the CNN viewer into believing that CNN is supporting Trump.

Nevertheless, we know what to expect from Trump, but we dont know how this will land with Independent voters.

It airs TONIGHT.  Will you be watching ?

No matter how many downvote emojis @Mavica gives my posts,  I stand by them and think CNN selling out to Trump is a shameful, disgusting travesty, since we all know what Trump is going to use that bullhorn for......   Regardless of Trumps right to free speech, there is no point other than $$$ that CNN is doing this for.   And anyone supporting them doing this or their right to do so, is sorely misguided.

No doubt? Are these facts or your imagination?

Trump does not need legitimation from any news network or media. He is a criminal and a piece of shit, but he is a former president. The US electoral system gave him legitimacy, and many Americans who still love him maintain it. Sure, many trumpards are idiots and racist, ignorant scum, but still, they are US citizens, and their opinion has the same weight as anyone else. Trump is not even the worse bag of trash coming from the GOP. There are many more ignorant, more racist, more absurdly legitimate characters coming from his tribe.

Having Trump in a town hall is good political practice if it is well done. He is a legitimate politician, whether or not we like it. I do not think he will have control over the questions. If CNN gave him control, then you are right.

But any news media should be willing to invite all voices of the political spectrum, even clowns like Trump.

Was it by design that the moderator kept referring to Trump as "President Trump" ?    Was that also a measure to legitimize him and what he was saying ??

As well, the audience stacked with his "supporters" also referred to him as President Trump when asking questions and thanking him for coming.

He is NOT President Trump now.  He is Mr Trump.

With that said, his "performance"  was the usual Trump trainwreck,  a boiling cauldron of Lies , misinformation and conspiracy theory.  What he said should have given EVERYONE that was watching or listening some food for thought.    Instead what we got was an audience filled with stupid, delusional people, that hungrily lapped up all Trumps "spilt milk", while laughing at Trumps mocking of EG Carroll, and applauding his pledge to "pardon" Jan 6th charged insurrectionists.

It was an outrageous and disgusting display of Trump grandiosity,   and a glimpse of things to come.

It was well done.  My take away is it illustrated the difference between Trump, a serial abuser and loser, and Reagan, who figured out how to win two landslides.

quote-if-you-re-explaining-you-re-losing

My favorite three explanations:

1.  A rioter who was killed is a "patriot."  The cop who shot her is a "thug."  Generally, rioters who attacks cops viciously and murderously and try to stop a peaceful transfer of power are "great people."

2.  Mike Pence deserves no apology because Pence is wrong that his life was in danger.  Which, technically, is not as bad as Trump saying something like Pence deserved to die, because he wouldn't be Trump's choice, anyway.  We all know Pence was Trump's choice, until he declined to abuse The Constitution.

3.  None of this would have mattered if Chris Miller had deployed the National Guard, as Trump ordered him to do.  Except Miller says Trump lied about that. Except Trump says Miller lied.  Can someone explain that?

So, I think it helps frame questions that all Americans should think about.  Why is it that Donald Trump can't get a fair trial, anywhere?  Why is it that the only people who tell the truth these days are Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson?  Somebody does need to explain these things to us.  Why not believe a convicted abuser and serial loser like President DJT?

giphy.gif

I agree with My Dearest and Darlingest Sis @Suckrates that Trump set a new despicable low in his deposition.  Which, sadly, he could not match on CNN.  He only called Kaitlin Collins a "nasty person."  In my book, that fell well short of telling her she wouldn't be a choice of his, either.

If the people who actually believe Trump's lies and slurs want him to win in 2024, I'm afraid he's going to have to explain, and lose, a lot more.

Well, my dear slut sister, it pretty much seems like the "hand-picked" Town Hall audience was "buying what Trump was selling".....  And Trumps command performance was being televised to an enormous crowd,  many of whom I would guess bought it too !

My darlingest love, it does go to show that even mature cock suckers can change.  You were always the one that could take more.  I guess as I have aged, with enormous grace, I have developed a certain tolerance.  Although not for Trump's little thing, of course.  Or his lies.

We both know size matters.  And the bigger the better.  Even with rope, it turns out.  I think Kaitlan just kept handing Trump enormous amounts of rope. And he hung himself, again and again.  Not hung in the way you and I prefer, of course.  Had I been in the audience, grace would mean giving out free Pepto Bismol.  Half the shit he said made me want to vomit.

Had the audience booed and hissed every time President DJT opened his mouth, that would have just looked like CNN socialists.  Who have no grace regardless of age.  They are simply extremists who are wired to be cruel to an abusive liar who can't even get a fair trail, for Pete's sake.  (Don't let me get distracted about Pete and Chasten's sex life, though.)

So I personally liked the optics of Trump saying all this ridiculous implausible shit while an audience of the faithful, I guess, mostly sat in awe and reverence.  Sure, they could have actually had Trump abusing or even raping someone to applause.  But calling Kaitlan a nasty girl went far enough, I think.

The way Trump will win is to talk 24/7 about how the Biden economy sucks.  And the Trump economy was better.  I posted already that when asked about the economy, stupid, voters right now say Trump did a better job on the economy by 52/36 or so.  I'm not sure I trust that number.  The grass is always greener on the other side.  Regardless, whenever Trump is explaining his lies, his abuse, his rapes, why "Hang Mike Pence" is not an actual death threat, or why cop beaters are "great people," he is losing.

Former officeholders, including US Presidents, are most often publicly addressed using their former title.  We see / hear that on a daily basis no matter the media outlet.  Presidents, Congressmen, Mayors, Cabinet secretaries, Generals.

CNN chose a lightweight to moderate, which was a mistake.  He may have been given moderator approval. Trump ran over her, repeatedly.  It was a GOP townhall but whomever organized the attendees out-foxed (no pun intended) CNN by the imbalance and seeming absence of independents.

Trump was obviously speaking to his base.  I don't think he won-over anyone who didn't vote for him in 2020.

Yes, he's the Devil incarnate.

Since he respects NOONE,  he should not have been given any respect either or a Title.    His misogyny and sexism was on full display, and his rambling incoherence was exactly what THAT crowd wanted....   But as a respected news organization CNN had the responsibility to fact check him, and should have posted disclaimers after every Lie he told that it WAS a lie, so that the home viewing public was not mislead....    The US has run out of ammunition because of Ukraine ?    REALLY ?      He patted himself on the back continuously, and took NO responsibility for anything,  not even the things he has been, or will be indicted for.    NO. I dont think crazy Orange Don won over any new voters, but I dont think he lost any of the Old ones either.

@Mavica, from your continuous "downvote " emojis, its hard to tell if you are a Pro-Trump plant here or an Anti-Trump activist ?  😏    Pick a lane dude !

LOL!  There's enough waste of bandwith in this forum.  The website owner here  provides emojis so not all of us have to write a book with each reply.  I express my agreement, disagreement or other sentiments frequently by use of an emoji.  When I feel the urge to say more I do so.  Thank you for asking. :D

The downvote (essentially a stand-in for thumbs down) is a comparatively ambiguous emoticon. Similarly ambiguous is being laughed at, versus laughing with, or props for humour.

The downvote may benefit more from elaboration as it can be interpreted as flat out censorship when often the more appropriate or accurate response is disagreement as opposed to full discord. In civilized debate, there may be some degree of commonality of view albeit within polarization. Take student debate competitions for example. You wouldn’t see eye-rolling, nose-holding, or negative head-swivelling among the opponents. The position platform assignment is random. Agree to disagree yields no points.

Even for ideologically based positions the written downvote signal comes across too much as a hostile level of antipathy. Its value is not commensurate with an upvote (ie, like); it’s more negative than a zero sum product. And its background is red, symbolically connoting inflamed bloodlust. That level of meta communication is too emphatic and, on its own, leaves the discussion hanging and the opponent (for lack of a better term) second-guessing.

Pretty much a poorly designed piece of crap. Trolls characteristically and lazily ambush with downvotes. Why would you want to appropriate a symbol that may miscategorize you?

Cue the downvote.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled monologue.

I thought the Morning Joe crowd nailed it regarding Trump's lie and ego fest on CNN.

Scarborough said it's enormously stupid of Trump and his supporters to think a performance like that will help him.  He argued Biden said it best in a tweet:  "Do you want four more years of that?"

Willie Geist cited the Morning Joe axiom that politics is about addition, not subtraction.  Outside of Trump supporters, he asked, how many Independents who are not excited about Biden watched that CNN town hall and said, "Yup.  That sure makes me want to vote for Trump."

John Meacham, who is no radical, reminded me of Saul Alinsky's axiom from Rules For Radicals:  the action is in the reaction.

He said watching that Trumoy crowd and their deep connection to Trump, despite his lies and trashing of norms, made him feel like defeating this thing Trump represents has to be the biggest priority.  This is coming from a guy who styles himself as Mr. Bipartisan Moderate.

I agree with Meacham.  I'm glad they had an audience of Trumpers.  It was scary.  I think a lot of moderates and Independents who are not fans of Biden will watch that and feel like, "No.  No.  We can't have this."

Does First amendment still exist in US? If so, why so many words about appearance of candidate to take POTUS's chair on TV?

Traditionally former presidents go back to the form of address to which they were entitled prior to taking office. The logic was that it was a one-person-at-a-time office so only the current office holder would get the forms of address. For example, in retirement Dwight  Eisenhower was correctly addressed as General (Full name) on the envelope and as Dear General (Surname) in the salutation.  After Harry Truman left the presidency he directed others to address him as Mr. Truman.

After listening to the ex-president's performance on CNN the other night, according him even the honorific prefix would constitute a lie.

No. "President Trump" is correct because of lifetime presidential privilege. Moderator may use both: "Mr. Trump" and "President Trump". "Mr. President" isn't correct since it is privilege of acting president.

Trump is so deranged,  referring to him as President now gives him and his bloated ego an even Greater sense of "entitlement".    As does it to his fanatic followers....

Just another thing that is broken in politics - political privilege POST service.

If the law is supposed to treat people as "just regular folk" post serving their terms, then perhaps stripping them of their title is appropriate ?  🤔

(Come on Mavica, I trust this will earn me a "downvote ?)   🤣
