I’m very excited to be going to Thailand again, in January. The last time I was there was in June/July this year which was the first time after a 2.5 year absence. This trip will only be very short as it will be book ended by family commitments in the Philippines and then work commitments back home. Thanks to some suggestions here I’ve decided to spend 2 days in Pattaya and 4 days in Bangkok. Doing some very late Spring cleaning this morning, I came across a Bangkok Gay Guide for June 2007. I believe these were printed monthly and given out free in most of the go-go bars and other gay venues. Usefully Bangkok was split up into various sections to make it easier to find venues.Equally usefully each sub-map has a box with the main venues listed in them. It is not always easy to locate them but if you look closely they are there. I have tried to take photos of several with my phone. I see that Soi Twlight was listed under its proper name, Soi Pratuchai. Sad to see how many are closed. Yet some still survive even if not in the same locations.

What has prevented or delayed my return to Thailand? Well, I initially had every intention of going back. I absolutely adored the food, the aromas, the culture, the shopping, and the diverse people. However, one factor that started to put me off was the rapidly increasing cost of enjoying a show at a bar. When I first arrived, I had no problem treating a group of two or three guys at a gogo bar, even handing out 100 baht notes for them to tip their preferred performers. But soon enough, the prices began to rise, along with the demands for tips from the waitstaff. A 300 baht drink often came with a demand for a 100 baht tip to the waiter. In all my visitis to Taipei, I have never had a problem with flight times - until yesterday afternoon. Returning to Bangkok there were a lot of clouds and we had been advised in advance that it was raining at BKK. On several occasions an aircraft I was on from other destinations has had to circle for up to 30 minutes, usually around the Pattaya area while waiting for a rain storm to pass over BKK. Siam Roads guide, Mac, reminds me that there are no alcohol sales from the 13th until the close of the polls. Any one able to advise if the clubs will be open on the 13th and/or 14th? Tonight another bar opens in the original Balcony Terrace bar(opposite Balcony and next to Circus), not to be confused with the terrace area next to that, now occupied by Jupiter. Since Balcony sold it, there have been several short lived attempts open something. Further along from Mango Tree restaurant, this new bar opened last night: 2 May. Whoever the owners are they have put a lot of work into this comfortable place with decent seating etc.There is a show and a selection of boys and staff. My drink @ Bicardi was 350 baht and only time will tell if this new establishment will succeed: Worth a visit!

A new 7-Eleven has opened on Surawong between Soi Tarntawan and the driveway entrance to Tarntawan Hotel. In the process, it gobbled up one of the mixed massage shops. This may turn out to be an even better after-hours cruising spot that Vinapu is known to periodically check out.
