Considering this was thrown together at the last minute by the bbcm organization... it was really quite good. Going to NY with a couple of college boys from Quebec to see some Broadway. These guys are 20... so I thought, no problem, we'll go to a 18 and over party... Well Detention NYC is moved to Jersey, and Campus Thursdays College Nite Camp at Splash Bar is 21 and over (for a gay college party?). Heaven is just plain gone. Anybody know if something happened that made the city crack down on these clubs? Or was it just a financial decision on all these clubs to admit only over 21? I've been to these before (surprise surprise) and they were always really well attended.

It's set in the Madison Ave. world of advertising some time around 1960. The period references are lots of fun. Beyond that, a peculiar show. I've seen only two episodes, but from what I can tell there are no heroes. All the men, at least so far, are contemptible to a greater or lesser degree. The signals all point to one of them eventually coming out of the closet, to us if not to his work mates. That would be a concession to modern requirements. Another is the on-screen (hetero) sex, which amounts to boiler plate. The women are depicted as more complicated than the men, but not much. I'll stick with it until it's clear whether my interest is growing or waning.

The newest thing in health drinks. Very big in Brazil. Also popular in every other tropical and sub-tropical place I was ever in. Here it occupies a modest spot in lots of bodegas. I watched and enjoyed the Youtube debates last night. I thought the format was nice and some good questions were asked. I thought a few of the candidates really stood out. http://youtube.com/debates On the Gay Marriage Question, my hero, Kucinich was the one who gave the anwer I wanted to hear. The rest just gave lip service. The first link above has the debate questions and responses. Take a look if you did not watch it live. Is this the wave of the future for debates? Also, many candidates make commercials just for YouTube. Isn't it interesting how the candidates are going after those of us that frequent the Internet?

I stumbled on this show knowing nothing about it and recalling only that I had liked the leading man (Jeffrey Donovan) in a show called Touching Evil that was riveting but had a grim premise and lasted only one season. This show is 180° away from the earlier one. The writing is very sharp and funny. The situations are off the wall, and played with lots of humor and irony. Donovan's acting wisely owes a lot to Cary Grant. He is also a lust magnet of the first order. They get his shirt off pretty often, but overall are much too sparing with the beefcake to suit me. The comedy fell short on making me laugh. I found it offensive and old. I hated the gay sterotypes and I hope that is NOT the way middle America sees us. The jokes mostly bombed and the funniest part was at the end when Lance Bass sang a song at a gay wedding. Save this movie for when you get a Free coupon from Blockbusters.

Well, it has been a slow gossip week I guess. But, I got an e-mail from Stef today and he has finally arrived back in the USA and gotten the amazing Iphone. How do I know this? Last night at 12:01 AM I was in line with a ton of others to pick up the latest copy of Harry Potter. This is supposed to be the last book in the series. I have close family who are in their early teens who wanted the book at midnight and their parents did not want to take them so I loaded them up for a wait in line at midnight. With the campaign season kicking off and the candidates working hard to raise funds, some candidates have already dropped out of the race as they have not raised enough money to continue. McCain has had to cut his staff in recent days. Both of the 2 front running Democratic candidates have raised over 30 million in the last reporting period. I am surprised that Obama has been able to keep up with the Clinton machine. Very impressive in my opinion. Though those of us in the neighborhood who have been waiting for the opening of the new Whole Foods Market in the brand new GLBT Center on Halsted Street in Chicago for months now are really excited about having the store in our 'hood, the more important aspect of this story is how a major retailer has recognized the value of GLBT customers in its business plans and has formed a joint project with the community which will support the center with an A credit quality tenant which will provide revenues to support programs for gay, lesbian, bi and transgendered youth in our community. The worst movie that I have seen in a long time is Delta Farce. I was coaxed into seeing this with a friend last night. I was not excited about it but I never walk out of movies. Well, never say never. The comedy was not funny. It was stupid which I expected. But, when you can see scenes with the microphone in the top of the screen to catch sound, you know you are in for a real treat. Am I just getting too old to understand this humor? Or, did anyone actually sit through this movie and enjoy it. I walked out after about 20 minutes.
