Sorry for the rukus I caused.  I'm not a Troll, 3 years ago I may have been a little un-educated.  I meant K1 visa when I typed K4 visa, My Fiance has never been to the USA, everything I have read says that's it near impossible for Thais to get a tourist Visa, since we are romantically involved I wasnt going to try to get a Tourist visa for him just in case.  What DivineMadMan said in the post above is what I was trying to get across.  I took someones advise on this board and waited to get to know him before I pursued the K1 route.  That time has come.  Why KhorTose  or anyone thinks I'm trolling is beyond me.   To be honest I wish I could chat with KhorTose about what he and his went thru to get the K1 visa approved since he is from the USA.
What DivineMadMan stated in his post before mine is what I was trying to convey, just did a bad job of it.  Thos that think I'm trolling, please tell me why and I will try to answer your suspicions.

That is something that has been on my mind, money.  I'm thinking about a prenuptial agreement to protect my assets that I had pre-marriage "just in case"

I think those who think you are a troll usually had very bad experience with Thai boys at the end almost all relationship ended because money issues most Thai boys are gold deagers and not into genuine relationship with a falang unfortunately most descavered it at early stage but unfortunately some did not and lost substantial amount of money before the relationship eventually colloupsed . I don't think you are a troll and if the relationship between you two will be a success at the US you will belong to a very small percentage of mixed Thai Western relationship that succeed. I wish you all the best and happiness with your Thai partner.

There is a 3 year gap in the thread.  So maybe with that in mind we don't have to conclude that the OP is clueless.  All he's saying - now - is that after three years his partner (and he) is (are) going to apply for a K-1 visa.
I don't think the OP ever said his partner has been to the U.S., so I just don't understand the issue about a 10 year visa.  Just seems to be off-point.
I think all he said was after three years they have decided to get married and will try for a K-1 visa.  As a first visa for his partner.
These days it is quite difficult to get a visa to the U.S.  K-1 is an option.
I most certainly do know someone --a former working guy -- and his partner (now husband) who successfully got a K-1 visa to the U.S. and then got married in the U.S.  It happens.  Not saying it's easy.  But it can be done.  I also know other former working guys who have run the gauntlet and are in the U.S. on visas.

So here it is almost 3 years later, I'm still in love with the Boy, I travel to Thailand every 6 months for two weeks to be with him. On my last trip I asked him to marry me, he said yes.  I have started the K1 visa app, i hope it goes thru as I want him here with me, everytime I visit I dont want to leave.  I have 5 years till retirement so I cant "stay".  I will meet the parents in April when we all goto Pattaya.  There is exactly a 30 year difference, that may be a problem with the US Immigration tho.

I would just like to include my and my Thai partners (now Civil Partner) personal experience of him coming to live with me for two years in the UK prior to me retiring in Thailand.
I took him to the nearest Thai temple which was about 30 miles from my home and we talked to a Thai lady who was there at the time, she said she knew some ladies married to farangs living in my town, she took and passed on his phone number.
The result was he met a group of about 20 Thais (all ladies) who got together a least once a week to talk, eat etc and he made good friends and enjoyed himself.
At the time he was 25 (I was 63), he is a village lad but he's not shy and a great cook of Thai food which I'm sure helped.
I was also lucky in that my UK neighbours took to him and made him welcome, most of them were retired and looked after him while I was at work.
Another tip was, if it's easy for him to attend, get him a gym membership. My guy is not really into the gym, but he did enjoying going almost every day to pass some time.
Good luck and if you are successful with his visa enjoy your house being spotless, your washing and ironing done, good Thai food and a great smiling welcome when you arrive home from work.

I have no plans for him, if he wants to work its up to him.  He isnt really a boy, hes 27 turning 28 in April so he is mature enough to make his own decisions.  The only thing I told him he can't do is keep livestock in the back yard (he was born and raised in a villige outside Chaing Rai, a Farm boy).
We spoke at length and in depth about this last night. I made it clear to him that if he can't adapt he is free to go back and we will keep meeting up every 6 months until I retire.  We only have 3 months to get married with the K1 visa, Once we marry I told him he can not leave the US until he gets a green card or advance parole, if he does he can't re-enter the States.  I made it clear that if he wants to go back I will not be mad at him and will of course fly him home and then restart the 6 month visit schedule.  I have a strong feeling he will adapt to western life, his step dad is english and he and his mom are in the UK 4 or 5 months a year. He knows that he will be around 50-55 when I pass, but be a rich man and go back to Thailand.  We have tried to cover everything.  I did find 2 Wats and a very large Thai Community group in my area which was surprising to me.  Hes excited to come to the US, he's excited about getting married, he's excited about taking care of me tho it will be me taking care of him. In short, Im doing everything I can to make this as painless as I can for his comfort and well being.

I think about this everyday when we chat, I wonder if he will adapt to life in the US, will he like it here etc.  If after all this he can't adapt he goes back and we switch off visiting each other. I certainly wouldnt want to keep him miserable.  I've been looking into thai community groups, a Temple for him to goto.  All I can do is offer suggestions after all is said and done.

Hi Schuft, Congratulations and good luck. If you didn't try to achieve this you would always wonder. I went into a similar situation after a long distance relationship. Like you I was aware that he might not adapt to local conditions(which in my case were unfortunately without any thai infrastructure), I was at work every day for long hours etc. But it was fine and we are still together twenty years later, and the large age gap remains a large age gap! So happy I took that risk, and what a fight we had for the early visas. All worth it a hundredfold.

"That he offers to quit his job for your visit is - in my opinion - a big, fat warning sign. "

I agree with Alexx as I advised before the most important test is if the boy is willing to work and support himself than his genuine and honest. If he is willing to quit his job there is a possibility that he doesn't have any at all and he's lying or he doesn't like to work and prefer to quit and to be supported financially by you.

Consider this situation as an adventure with low expectations with this boy and be very cautious.

Part 1 - SUBMITTING THE FIANCEE VISA PETITION

As Bob suggested above, you should PM KhorTose (or any other successful fiancée visa sponsor) to see if he is willing to share his experience.   His case does seem unusual in that his BF had a ten year tourist visa (usable for 10 years but each visit limited to 3-6 months).  That indicates that the US Embassy was reasonably sure that he would return to Thailand at the end of his stay in the US because of his comfortable financial situation in Thailand.  I doubt this would apply to your 20 year old BF.

After you meet your BF for the first time, you are about a year away from confidently filing the fiancée visa petition with US Immigration (CIS).   You would almost be guaranteed approval by CIS but when it comes time for the visa interview at the US Embassy, you would need to show a history of communication with the BF (emails, or copies of other printable cyber-communications, phone records) and your several visits to be with him in Thailand.

When you do file the Visa Petition, CIS is just interested in whether or not you are  legally eligible to sponsor your BF.  You would just need to submit
Copy of your US passport bio page, or cy of your birth certificate
Proof of termination of prior marriage(s), if any
Evidence that you have met your BF in person during the 2 years prior to filing the visa petition.

With the visa petition, you are not expected to also provide proof of relationship.  That proof is what he will need when he has the visa interview at the Embassy in Bangkok.

Once CIS has approved the Fiancée Petition, it will be forwarded to the National Visa Center (NVC), for record keeping purposes.    NVC will contact you to let you know they have forwarded the petition to Bangkok.  The US Consulate in Bangkok will contact your BF for a visa interview.

Note that approval of the visa petition by CIS in the US does not mean that your BF can immediately get a visa to the US.    It is up to the US Consulate in Bangkok to make that determination, and they will only do so if they believe that the relationship is genuine.

Part 2 – THE VISA INTERVIEW AT THE US CONSULATE

The sponsor is normally not entitled to attend the visa interview but should waiting outside in case the consul decides he wants to speak with him.

How will the Consular officer determine if you and your BF have a genuine relationship?
Your BF may be required to speak with the Consul in English, at least until Consul can see if you and your BF can communicate in English.  There’s a bullet proof glass partition between the applicant and the Consul, and there are interviews going on to the right and left of the applicant, so communication can be difficult.

The age difference is not automatically a denial factor and legally cannot be used as such by the Consul.   Consul is primarily trying to satisfy himself that you and your BF have a bona fide, caring relationship.  And some consuls will be protective of the Thai applicant because after all is said and done, the young Thai really does not have any idea what his life would be like in the US.  That’s why you need to fill him in on everything about your life in Atlanta or wherever you’ll be living when he arrives in the US: your job, salary, house, car, details about your children and ex-wife, if any.  Any dogs or cats in the family?  Let him know that also. Tell your BF about what you have in mind for your wedding (venue, clergyman who will officiate), about your honeymoon.

My office in Vietnam has handled a number of same sex fiancée cases and all have been successful.   But there are no go-go bars in Vietnam and the bona fides of the relationship is much easier to establish in Vietnam.    Consuls in Bangkok are aware of the sex industry, so your BF should have en employment verification letter to evidence his way of earning a living.    Also good for him to present a high school diploma.

Alexx has made some very salient points above, not related to visa approval  but dealing with the realities of your life with your BF in the US.   This is something that requires some very careful consideration.

If your BF’s case is approved, you will need to marry within 90 days of his arrival in the US.   If it is clear during those 90 days that things are not going to work out, then he would need to return to Thailand.    There is no way to change from an unfulfilled Fiancée Visa to a Student Visa, in case he would like to remain in the US.

My work has been almost exclusively with Vietnamese visa applicants.  I would welcome comments from anyone who has had experience with the US Embassy in Bangkok, since procedures differ somewhat from one Consulate to another.

    From   https://www.avert.org/professionals/hiv-around-world/asia-pacific/thailand  :

"Thailand provides antiretroviral treatment (ART) for free as part of the country’s universal health insurance scheme.. It is one of only two countries in Asia and the Pacific that has more than 50% of people living with HIV on ART, the other being Cambodia. In 2015, 64% of adults who are eligible for treatment were receiving it, alongside more than 95% of children.
In October 2014, Thailand extended ART to all those living with HIV, regardless of their CD4 count (which indicates the health of the immune system), in line with the most recent WHO treatment guidelines. Since then, more thorough identification of new cases has been introduced to ensure people start receiving treatment as soon as possible after diagnosis.
Thailand committed to reach 90% of eligible adults and children with life-saving antiretroviral therapy by 2016. However, the adoption of these new treatment guidelines means it has now missed these targets."

In the absence of a cure for HIV, the rational way to eliminate it is to treat everyone infected so that their viral load goes to nearly zero and it is nearly impossible that they pass the virus to others. This is something good that can be said about Thailand.  In contrast, a very rich Singapore is far behind in social programs, offering little help and much bashing to people with HIV.  Their lack of concern is a curse of their homophobia...
