lotus123 got a reaction from gytis123 in What was the greatest night you ever had in Bangkok?
As others have said, my first night was memorable. Why? Because it was the first. For me, that was the first night of my first visit to BKK, back in the summer of 1997, which I've written about on another thread. However, the first night that I had a really great fuck is also memorable. That was at the end of '97. It was with a guy called Toy, of all things, who worked at Twilight. He was an ethnic Khmer from Buriram who could, um, ram it really well. He claimed to be 27, but I found out later he was closer to 37. We got together off and on for a year until he ordained as a monk. No kidding.
Apart from the night I met my longterm boyfriend, the other most memorable night was the one I spent with a Thai guy off Romeo. Beginner's luck, in that he was my first-ever online connect in BKK. This was around 2012. We met in Silom and had a drink in Soi 4. He spoke excellent, idiomatic English. We then took a taxi to his condo unit in a tall, swanky building. Said he was an architect. Looked to be in his late 20s, but who knows? Quite dark skinned. Average height, but muscular and with a chiseled jaw. It turned out he was also packing a thick 7 or so inches, which he used to work me over good. At dawn, pretending to be still asleep, he pulled the blanket aside to reveal his morning wood. I admired it for a few minutes before he grabbed my neck and pushed my head down for a blow job, which I was only too happy to provide. There followed a thorough fuckdown before he kicked me out around 8am, saying that he had to go to work. Never saw him again, nor did I ever have such a successful Romeo encounter again.

Maybe, but Dick's and I go back a long way. Twenty plus years. The BKK Dick's was a favourite for years, replaced in our affections by the JC one  when we changed our location. As Oscar Wilde nearly said, to lose one gay restaurant is unfortunate but to lose two sounds like carelessness.
And so I hope Kokopelli3 is right,.

lotus123 got a reaction from Mavica in Gay farangs living on the breadline
This is very similar to the situation in Canada. If you start early, you lose 0.6% from the full payment for every month before your 65th birthday. Conversely, you gain 0.7% per month for every month you delay after that birthday, until age 70. Consequently, I'm doing my best to hold off for as long as I can.

lotus123 reacted to Bruno in Living in Cairo as a gay expat
I recently came across this forum and have been reading the many posts on gay adventures in beautiful Egypt. I wanted to pay my contribution by adding stories of my experiences as a 30-year old European expat living in Cairo between 2015 and 2020.

My apologies for the context I would like to provide. The main reason for leaving Europe in 2015 was the lack of adventure and excitement I felt in my early thirties. I was living in rainy Western Europe, had random unexcited hook ups via Tindr or Grindr once in a while, but generally felt like living a boring routine. Therefore, I applied for a teaching position at a Cairo international school, was offered the job and left for the unknown. The moment I arrived at Cairo Airport, I knew I was about to love this country: chaos, shouting everywhere, a lack of structure, adventure, the heat, ... Soon I was about to discover something else: the ridiculously handsome men available... everywhere.

The school arranged us a flat in a lush suburb south of the city center, Maadi. Having your own space, it turned out quickly, had amazing advantages in terms of excitement. Each apartment building in Maadi is guarded by a bowab, a local doorkeeper, often from the southern Egyptian regions. Separated from their families in the warm south and often very young of age, their main task is to maintain the building and secure your safety. The first week of arrival, our building's bowab asked me to help him move a table in one of the other flats. it was 'too heavy to lift by one person only'. How naive could I be? Soon he wanted to show me the flat's bathroom 'as it was more modern than mine'. Before I realised, we were showering together. The sex was quick, rough and meaningless. Finished by a 'Welcome to Egypt', I could not have imagined this to be start of a new journey.

I subscribed at a local gym. After work, not wanting to hang out with my colleagues all the time, I would hit the place and finish off in the sauna. Within days, I became part of the (gym) community. Egyptians are very eager to meet foreigners in general and the sociological characteristics of that Maadi sauna were of an interest to me. After working out, men would typically hang out in the sauna or in the steam bath. All pre-arranged married, they did not seem to have the appetite to go home early. Neither did they particularly seem to like / love their wives. They all raved about their kids, yet - Egyptians don't shy the topic - the marital sex life was far from satisfying for many of them. Most men I met in the gym (and later), it seemed to me, were eager to enjoy and explore life. The word 'gay' was never mentioned, nor assumed. It was all about enjoying, relaxing, massaging, smoking shisha, going home and watching porn / masturbating together, having a beer, smoking hasjish and finishing off with quick, good sex. Five of us would become friends with benefits: through them - on parties in Maadi or the city center - I would meet other men. In exchange, I invited expat colleagues.

I could never have imagined this being the Middle East. Men looked beyond gorgeous with their muscled bulky bodies, deep voices, dark-brown soft skin, cheeky smiles and endless capacity to explore. They all seemed so relaxed. They live life to the fullest, especially as the Revolution had proven that things could turn to worse very quickly. That atmosphere felt so sexy and harmless. I never felt the need to turn on Grindr on Tindr, you just would meet endless boys and men in the supermarket, in coffee bars, on the metro, in taxi's (Uber got introduced when I was living in Cairo - a hot spot as well) and in bars and clubs in the city center.

In terms of Cairo, I remember the railway station (Ramses Station) and the huge square in front of it to be a popular hook up spot, as well as the bridge crossing the Nile at Tahrir Square (Qasr El Nil Bridge). However, as mentioned, there never seemed to be the need to look for something. It would come to you! In Aswan, for instance, I was approached by the taxi driver who drove me from the airport to the hotel late at night. Nubian penises and fatter are bigger than in Cairo. Moreover, the city's feluccas and corniche are ridiculously cruisy, both at day and night. I occasionally picked a handsome (and incredibly fit) felucca sailor and we had sex in his boat around Elephant Island in the River Nile. On a Luxor trip, I would visit the temples and Valley of the Kings in the very early morning and relax at the hotel's pool / room in the early afternoon. As mentioned on this blog earlier, staff is eager to meet you. Egyptians are allowed to enter the big hotels without any issue. There is too much passage to control. At the Luxor Steigenberger I invited a fruit vendor I met at the temples earlier that day. His triceps were the biggest I had ever felt in my life. Although the sex was rubbish, just seeing him undress and observe his body was a pleasure enough. Alexandria is a driving sea city in which all life surrounds the most amazing sea side boulevard I have ever came across. Hotels turn into rooftop night clubs at night. People enter and leave the buildings at a paste unable to control. When looking for more adventure, try one of the many desert tours (with overnight camping - pleasure guaranteed with the staff), a Siwa oasis visit, crossing the Suez Canal from Port Said to Port Fouad, relaxing in one of Dahab's open-minded hammock guest houses or staying over at one of the 'liberal / freedom camps' between Sharm-El Sheikh and Taba.

Having an Egyptian boyfriend - I got even introduced to his (well-educated) parents  - is a different story. They are hard work. In the flux they are at, it almost seems impossible for them to meaningfully connect to one person. Monogamy is unheard of in Egypt's gay community. They key words remain pleasure, devotion, emotion, passion, unlimited sexual drive and endless adventures.

Enjoy this marvelous spot on Earth, both culturally and spiritually!

    Cheers
    B.

I couldn't quite figure out where to put this... But I've been out in Kanchanaburi for the last few days. Yesterday we visited Huay Mae Kamin waterfall. It's about 45km past Erawan Falls which are currently closed due to storm damage a couple of weeks ago. It is spectacular and magical. It's quite reminiscent of Kuang Si in Luang Prabang with several levels and beautiful green waters. Also quite easy to get to with parking right near the most beautiful parts of the falls. But take the walk to tier 6 and you're rewarded by an enormous abundance of butterflies. I've never seen anything like it. Well worth the 300 baht entry for foreigners
Lots of long drives and winding roads out in that part of the country.

From there we drove to Hua Hin which took all day. And today was a backtrack to Phetchaburi to visit King Monkut's hill top palace and the very cool Khao Luang cave which has sunbeams that stream in around 10 AM. No photos allowed inside the palace but the rest of the outdoor spaces are very pretty. You reach the top of the hill by taking a funicular. I think it was 230 baht for the cable car ride up and back plus entry to the palace. The cave was just 10 baht.
Haven't had a chance to go through the photos from the palace yet.

I frequented the Yunomori near Phrom Phong back way back since 2015.
There used to be some 'going-on's' happening in the toilet back when the cubicles weren't all blocked up. There were a lot of action happening in the urinals as well since obviously, you only have that small face towel to obscure your business. But mostly, the hot and youngish locals would normally go there to show off their goods, cruise, and then 'take-home' their pickings where it is more safe to play.. But now that scene has died down since the staff have become very strict in catching any hanky panky.... I've even witness a local and a tourist getting caught and shamed to death by the staff, telling they are going to be taken to the police.
Alas, that onsen has just become a place to go to and really relax, and just enjoy the eye candies from all over the world visiting Bangkok

Vinapu, I would add to your list, those of us who choose to retire here to continue all of what is written above - because it is cheaper than in our home countries, the weather is better, the food is great, the beaches are wonderful.  Furthermore, the big gay retirement community that is here gives us a sense of happiness and security knowing that we can avoid the assisted care centers back in our home countries, that might require us to go back into the closet for the last years of our lives.  Instead, we can die with dignity, having our Thai guys take care of us until the bitter end - in my mind, this Thai type of assisted living care is SO much better than the back home version and is affordable.
Last year, my mother died in assisted living care (she was there for 3 long years), and it was costing us between $7,000 to $9,000 USD each month - truly outrageously expensive.  The assisted care center was nice - but very mechanical and mundane in its approach - not the way that I want to finish the last years of my life - so, Thailand it is for me.

all I know we only know about them as much as they told us. The same works other way.
I personally am not that critical and as reader pointed , I see young men who are trying to make living using assets they have i.e themselves and their good looks.
some are quite uplifting like one of my semi-regulars , single father who use to proudly point 'I don't have girlfriend but i have a son"
Other one , also mentioned often in my reports was orphaned my mother in his childhood  ( my friend who also offed him overheard him mumbling to himself ' mom help me", quite moving ) and later father was killed by Thai police. Yet still managed to built a house in his native village, whatever it is he calls a house.
Personally when I think about them I avoid generalizations. Not all are poor or coming from poor backround. I know about 4 who have a car. One has small business, other one owns a condo. few , judging but how they speak English have quite extensive education. By no means they are prevailing examples but they do exist.
One who has steady job but paying only 10200 per month freely admits he goes with clients for easy money. Sleepless night bringing him 3000 it's almost 1/3 of his monthly take after all
The same applies to us,  their clients. Our motivations to engage in the world of paid sex half world from home are very different and sometimes not even clear to ourselves I suspect. Some like Asians, some like sex far from home, some like to avoid any commitments (old saying 'most expensive sex is free one). It will be sex addicts and those who treat sex as vacation adventure.
And it will be those like me who fruitlessly search  for dream guy who can be offed for hand holding session only. Such dream guys are existing but it seems heat of the moment always derails hand holding only part.

lotus123 reacted to PeterRS in Babylon-like Sauna?
I agree with the first part but definitely not the second. In my view it has absolutely nothing to do with being paid or not. I referenced the gogo bars 30-40 years ago when the majority of the customers were Thais. How often have you seen lots of Thais in gogo bars in the past decade or more? That has nothing to do with their not preferring to be with farang. It's a sign that as the Thailand gay scene and Thai society has developed, Thais increasingly want to be with fellow Thais rather than in bars where there are increasing number of farang. Times change.
The same trend has become very obvious in other countries like Japan. As a gay bar/club/sauna culture developed in the 70s and 80s, young Japanese gays found it extremely difficult to form relationships with fellow Japanese. This reflected the long work hours of Japanese, the closeness of housing making it extremely difficult to keep any kind of MtoM sexual relationship private in a country in which the vast majority frowned on them, and overall low salaries. Gaijin generlly had large apartments in Japanese terms, far larger salaries and much more personal freedoms. Many young Japanese found it was far more convenient to live a gay lifestyle by attaching themselves to a foreigner. On my early visits to Japan, such relationships were extremely common.
With Japan having become very wealthy since then, with social attitudes changing and same sex civil partnerships now legal in several parts of the country, Japanese preferring to be with fellow Japanese has rightly become much more the norm.

    Day 6
After emotions of previous 5 days I decided to deflate a bit and take it easy. Today was day me and CCP were supposed to arrive. For a second I entertained an idea of going to Swampy and see if he arrived utilizing free ticket my courtesy but abandoned idea fast. Why bother ? And even if he did , what it would change? I wouldn’t  even try to approach , even less to embarrass him.
After lazy morning I  left Rose and went back to Baan Silom. I liked Rose and it’s quite a option in area  if price is right. Unpacking in Baan Silom I noticed my two bottles of red wine carried from home . Now,  deprived option of seeing how it makes CCP horny I did not have much use of them but fortunately for the planet got idea who may utilize them and offered to gift to him , no strigs attached.
Passing by soi 6 , I noticed M, former masseur on duty at Tawan is now in new 9-teen massage and promised to see him one day. Solitary lunch in Foodland at 3 pm , completely empty at that hour today and then decided to check Kman spa in Saphan Kwai. Since I had Line to one of their guys I messaged him asking if he is working today and he responded he will be on duty at 5. So at 5 I was there too.
Massage as good as last time I was there and boy’s endowment was impressive   considering he is quite diminutive twink but he is Myanmarese, you know !
Then some computer stuff and it was 9.50 pm when I noticed I should check some bars perhaps. From rotation it was Hot Male turn so went there, just in time for the show.
Three veterans of previous offs came to greet me  and one of them, Sam,  I invited for a drink. I have soft spot for him ever since I took him to Grand Palace and he turned out to be truly interested in the place. I was not even in the mood for an off  but wasting time is not my thing so asked him to go with me and judging by reaction it was exactly what he  was waiting for.
So of we went via Foodland where while he was contemplating what to order I swear waiter told him ‘ take steak , his boy last night had it and farang paid” So steak it was.
Not particularly steamy night but after all that recent drama I  guess I just wanted comforting warm body beside and he provided.

I guess fact that I arranged for trip well (about 2 weeks) before CCP even contacted me helped me to get over it fast. It would be different if I came all the way specially to be with him , that would be upsetting big time.
His former bar friend was great consolator on my last night in PP , it helped too. Way it developed worst day of this trip was followed by second best if not best night. Vagaries of boy hunting !
Before I set off for PP I had a bit concern of how I keep CCP occupied in those  5 days so in some sense it was relief I don't need to worry about that too.
Strange as it may sound I still like him but rest assured , not to a degree  I would be pursuing him again , not to mention allowing to be manipulated in any sense. Old saying ' what doesn't kill you , makes you stronger " certainly applies here.
I was thinking about keeping it for myself instead of making public how big fool I was but after giving it some thought I decided to tell story so other can learn and perhaps feel better.
Most of us will still tend to think "I'm smarter and if I was vinapu I'd cut if off right away after (insert whatever moment )"
I can live with being smarter than vinapu part but have some doubts if in circumstances everybody will be cutting deal  off instead of trying to salvage it to reasonable degree as I tried unsuccessfully.
I was not in love neither tried to be , all I was looking for was to spent week+ with guy I met and who made the best impression on me , both as person and as prime beef. Fact that he remembered our October  talk and contacted me first was not only encouraging but thrilling too. So again , to quote Sophia from Golden Girls, while he turned bum, I still smile.

lotus123 reacted to Gaybutton in 90-day Address Report Online - Update
Those of you living in Thailand are well aware of immigration's 90-day Address Report requirement, which can be done at any immigration office.  Some may not be aware that you can do the whole thing online.  The programmers have done a good job with this one.  It works perfectly and can be done on a desktop computer, mobile phone, or tablet.  No more trips to the immigration office.  Those who live nowhere near an immigration office, no more mailing in.
What you do is log in.  Here is the URL:  https://tm47.immigration.go.th/tm47/#/login
Use that URL on whichever device you have or prefer.
If you're doing it for the first time you'll fill out the simple "Apply" form.  An Email will be sent to you with a password.  Save that password, although after the first time you log in your password will probably be saved.  You probably won't need to reenter your password unless you change devices.
Once you log in, now you'll fill out the Address Report form, which is very simple and actually requires a bit less information than the form you fill out if you go to immigration.  For instance you won't be asked for your arrival card number, how you arrived in Thailand, etc.
After filling out the form, you will submit it.  Not long after you will receive an Email telling you your submission has been received and accepted.
Not long after that, usually within an hour or two, you will receive another email telling you you have been approved.  Then you go back to the web site, click on the green "Status of Application" button.  The page that pops up will contain the approved form that you download (PDF format), print out, and put into your passport after removing the last address report form.
If you don't have a printer you can copy the form to a flash drive or take the device itself to any copy shop and they will be able to print it out for you -for about 10 baht.
After you have done your first submission, now you will receive an Email from immigration when your next report is due.  I'm glad they do that now.  They make sure you don't forget.
Who knows?  Maybe one of these days they'll come up with a way to do the Retirement Visa extensions entirely online, but I'm not holding my breath for that one . . .

no, I was talking about visual pleasures. On another hand scenario you are painting is far from impossible , specially on busy , touristy streets later at night. Not only  you can strike conversation, they may  be boys who will be first.
It already reported in one of my travel posts but can repeat. late at night, probably past 1  I took walk from Nantra Silom in soi 8 toward soi 2, somewhere past soi4 I noticed guy, I guess about mid 20,  walking in opposite direction. He smiled , I smiled back and kept walking .On reaching end of Silom I turned back and after a while I noticed the same guy walking quite slowly. When I was passing him he asked ' where u you going ? " , so I turned and said ' to ' my hotel " , ' can I go with you  ?"  was the next question.
I could say NO but why sane person will be doing that  ? so I said YES. Very pleasant companion, too bad I did not have phone and  Line then. In the morning he clearly did not look for  nor expect any tip but I slipped into his pocket him 1000 or two saying ' it's for breakfast and taxi".
Similar situation  happened in May by the bust stop at Christian Hospital on Silom and it was barely evening. Guy stopped me out of blue and asked 'do you want sex?", I did not take him on his offer as likely I had something arranged but he looked quite OK.
So when you walk , yes have eyes opened and not only because somebody could drop 20 baht note.

She was indeed a ladyboy and profiled in the book to which @forrestreid has helpfully posted a link. She performed in many different bars over the years. I first saw her at Super Lex Matsuda around the turn of the century. The mamasan at the time, Khun Phet, herself a ladyboy, told me a bit of her background but I didn't get the deeper story until I read the book. I used to tip Auntie Nong wherever I happened to see her. As for Super Lex Matsuda, it was one of my fave bars in those days. I always thought it went downhill after Khun Phet left, as did Mustache House, which she had managed before she moved to SLM. She wasn't pushy, was good company if you wanted her to be, knew everything about every boy, and kept the place in good order. She was inventive, too. During one of the Thai Rak Thai morality campaigns when no nudity was allowed, she got the boys to show off their more respectable talents. I'll never forget one boy getting up and doing a mor lam number accapella. It was hauntingly beautiful and got a long spell of applause from the other boys. Auntie Nong also performed. Then I took a boy home and got demolished like I never had before. An unforgettable night for several reasons!

lotus123 reacted to PeterRS in A Tropical Vineyard In Thailand
It seems there are several vineyards now appearing in the Kingdom. Visiting the famous Dansai Ghost Festival in Loei Province some years ago, I was surprised when our minibus passed quite a large vineyard. I was informed it was the first vineyard in Thailand and that the elevation, soil and hilly region made it ideal for making wine. This is a description. I did taste one of the wines - can't recall now which one. Pleasant and drinkable but certainly nothing special. Over the years I am sure they will improve in quality.
    Chateau de Loei
The Chateau de Loei winery is situated at 600 metres above sea level in the province of Loei, some 500 km north of Bangkok, and 60 km from the provincial capital, Loei. The first wines were vinified in 1995. Thus Chateau de Loei is the first winery in Thailand. With 130 hectares it is 60% bigger than the PB Winery and more than eight times bigger than the GranMonte Winery. Here, too, the Shiraz and Chenin Blanc grape varieties, which thrive best in the tropics, are cultivated.
The winery offers a large selection of different wines. The inexpensive wines are cheaper than at the previously visited wineries. But these also cost THB 450 (CHF/USD 14.50) per bottle due to the high alcohol tax. Some of these wines are drinkable, but they were not a pleasure. Since the Chateau de Loei produces a large quantity of wine, there must also be enough Thai buyers who have become accustomed to these wines over more than 20 years.

Near Chiang Mai there is also an amazing tiny distillery that makes liqueurs from Thai fruits. I visited with a friend around a dozen years ago as his nephew runs it. Both are Austrian. I thought the quality both original and quite stunning. As the output is so small, almost all is exported. But you can occasionally find a bottle or two in one or two of Bangkok's really top hotels.

I used to stay at the Tarntawan on every visit to Bangkok. Then one trip I met a friend from New York who was staying at Pinnacle Lumpini, which had a bit smaller rooms at about half the price. So I started staying there. I think I checked out of Tarntawan the very day I saw my friend's Pinnacle room and checked in there.
The breakfasts at Pinnacle were even more interesting than at Tarntawan. I met a real cutie in DJ Station one night. He came back to the hotel with me and we stayed up till about 7 in the morning having some wild, tequila-fueled sex. We got into positions I had never even dreamed about, then he insisted that I cum on his face. After showering we decided to go downstairs for breakfast. Neung wore one of the hotel-supplied bathrobes because why not? There were a few other couples like us who had obviously been up all night long. But most of the tables were occupied by families. At one point, a blonde little boy walks up to Neung to ask him why he was wearing a bathrobe. Neung spoke good English, gave the kid a charming reply and the two kept talking, mostly about the little boy's first trip toThailand but also about why Neung spoke English and stuff like that. What I remember most was the little boy's parents watching the conversation, checking out Neung, looking at me, sizing up the mixed-race, mixed-age gay couple and letting the conversation go on. Both Neung and the little boy were so pleased with their encounter, with the chance to talk to someone from a different world, with the knowledge that that chance encounter could only have taken place at a hotel breakfast buffet in Bangkok.
    It was wonderful.

some people are such time and opportunity wasters, sigh
after bars close many boys / and girls / are still lingering in the area, having a drink or a meal so if one is not too sleepy it doesn't hurt to make one or two rounds in Silom, Thaniya,  Suriwong, soi 6 (Tawan), linger a bit close to hospital as bus stop becomes interesting place and chances are we may still hunt somebody off fee free or at least to make arrangements for tomorrow. Even walking to one's hotel it pays to have eyes opened

Any reason why Goldmember's captivating trip report is being hijacked by a torrent of judgmental posts?
This is a forum dedicated to men who visit a third world country, in order to solicit young guys who would be out of their league back home and/or to purchase prostitutes at bargain basement prices.  There is no room for judgement here.
