In the light of the primary come from behind victory of liberal public Advocate Bill De Blasio, defeating lesbian candidate and Bloomberg protege Christine Quinn, and the rising popularity of Senator Elizabeth Warren, I hope this indicates that liberals are no longer staying quiet. Disheartened at the failure of Obama to maintain his liberal campaign promises- that Hope and Change thing he kept touting- liberals have been too quiet. But, he also had a more liberal record than did Quinn, who as Council speaker had to make alliances with a variety of groups that wouldn't have backed more liberal stances. The popularity of new Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren is also heartening. She is drawing increasingly large crowds as she campaigns on behalf of other candidates. Quickly being touted as an opponent of Hillary Clinton in a presidential run, she is just as quick to disclaim any interest in a presidential run. But, if she serves as a focus for liberals to rally around, it can only be a good thing.
