If you are at the Corona Mercure hotel, you go the street where the hotel parking is and you follow the street for around 50 m and the entrance of Action Bar is on the right. I just came back from my first trip to Rio. 8 days (or shall I say nites ?) in Heaven ! I will not write about safety in Rio since I commented this subject in another thread. Summarizing, I found Rio to be much safer than I imagined and much safer than it is described everywhere. If I was a bit reluctant to take the metro or to walk alone in the street the very first day, I did that regularly during all the other days without experiencing any problem. Of course obvious precautions have to be taken (be as « local » as possible, no jewels or watches, no showing of large amounts of money,etc.) I went basically to the three main saunas in Rio : Point 202, Club 117 and Meio Mundo. Point 202 is the most upscale of the three : there is a nice lounge, good shows, nice atmosphere and a wide variety of boys. It is certainly the place where there is the highest proportion of whites and light browns (« morenos claros » as they are officially called there). More than 2/3 of the boys are either black or « morenos escuros ». There are all ages, even though most of the guys are around 25 years old. We met there a young lad with green eyes who had just turned 18 a few weeks ago. His friend of 22 was with him, a gorgeous white lad with beautiful blue eyes and a nice body. In the case of Meio Mundo, I wondered the origin of the name (which means « Half World » in portuguese). I finally came to the conclusion that it meant a place where many people go. And it is true : there are many people there. Most of the boys are darker here than in Point 202 or Club 117. And there is no need to try to find a wanking room since all boys, practically all days are following a no-towel policy and wanking everywhere ... A kind of voyeur's paradise ... Safety during this trip to Rio After having read what is published on the subject, I must say that I was a bit reluctant to go to Rio thinking that I would have to go from one safe place to another, using only taxis, etc. And the first night I went out alone I took a taxi for a ride of 500 m from Pointe 202 sauna to my hotel in Sigueira Campos ... If you've got it or like it, this is place to buy them but not the place to flaunt it... Your invaluable valuables belong in the safety box of your hotel room. Carry along a photocopy of your passport, in case you are asked to show some ID. Leave the original together with your driver's license in your safety box (unless you're driving, of course). Do not take along more cash than you need. Most restaurants and stores take plastic, anyway, and you use your debit cards ATM's at selected banks. Stay on the South side of Rio, or at areas specifically recommend by our insider's guide. Avoid dark or isolated areas where you do not see a single soul at night (duhh), such as the Flamengo Park, or the Financial District. Walk with a sense of purpose, as if you knew where you are going to. Looking like a victim is the first step to becoming one. Don't leave your camcorder or state-of-the-art camera swinging from your limp hand, like a shopping bag. Wear shoulder straps. If you bring along expensive cameras, camcorders or laptops, consider an insurance. At the beach, do not leave your expensive camera, passport and/or cash laying around on the sand unattended while you go for a few laps. Do not hide your money in your $200 sneakers either, or you will lose both (that's an old one). Don't take off your watch and leave it laying on the sand behind your back while you are sitting on the sand distracted by the girls or boys that pass by (we've seen saw someone do this...)
