  1. #2 is White Heat, character is Cody Jarrett, played by James Cagney. #6 is on the tip of my tongue, the actor is Laurence Olivier . . .ok, got it now, film was Marathon Man and, I cheated here, the character he plays is Dr Christian Szell.
  2. In common with many beaches around south-east Asia there are a plentiful supply of men and women walking up and down the beach selling things. This young man caught my eye owing to a delicious tray of fruit he was selling. When walking he held the tray above his head, but the photo shows him cutting up some fruit for me. The camera exposure isn't quite right, his skin is not that dark, and his complexion is flawless with lovely smooth coffee-coloured skin.
  3. Here is another hotel you pass on the way to the Jasmine Hotel (see previous post). By zooming in I see it is called the Crystal Hotel. The only reason I took this photo was because of its rather exuberant architecture! I didn't venture inside.
  4. I stayed at the Jasmine Hotel in December 2005. It had been recommended to me as 'gay-friendly' by the proprietor of the Manor House guest house in Phnom Penh. It is, or was, the last hotel you come to along Ochheuteal beach. Cheers hotel where z909 stayed only opened in 2010 (see earlier posts) - as far as I am aware there was no specifically gay hotel in Sihanoukville until then.
  5. Top: photo by z909 taken recently Bottom: taken by Rogie 2005 I thought at first they were taken from a similar vantage point with z's further along the beach but then I realise z's is taken on an island - maybe that explains the beautiful clear water in his photo, or maybe mine would look nearly as good if I had a decent camera!
  6. Much obliged to Thaiworthy and z909 for your kind advice. I decided to do as Thaiworthy suggested as I admit I hadn't noticed the 'More reply options' box. Once you click on that it is identical to how it was before the system upgrade, so I had no further problems. I've used a photo uploading site before, along the lines z909 suggests, so I may also try that method in future. Top: z909 photo taken recently Bottom: Taken by Rogie 2005 minus herd of cows Conclusion: We may as well wait until the cows come home before we see Ocean 1 tower (a latter day 2001 monolith?) rearing its cocksure head on Sihanoukville beach. B)
  7. Can anyone tell me how to upload photos to the site? The procedure seems to be different since I last did this. Thanks in advance.
  8. Well done Thaiworthy! 30 gold stars to my four. I knew Ben KIngsley played Gandhi so could have had five stars if I'd had the courage of my convictions. I don't know your quote.
  9. I don't seem to watch porn much these days so things may have changed but I seem to recall the highlight of some porn vids is the 'money shot' where the guy whips his cock out of his buddy's arse and shoots his load; clearly if he has to fiddle with a condom it's going to completely mess things up. Ditto when the two protagonists are on the verge of doing it, if a condom is used we see the organ about to penetrate but not actually doing so, followed by a 'cut' and next you see the top doing his stuff, his organ snugly ensheathed. It's almost as if the actors are more embarrassed about being seen to use a condom than being filmed as flagrant exhibitionists. Well that's the way I remember it, hopefully the actors are a bit more relaxed about being seen putting the condom on nowadays.
  10. I got five out of ten in Fountainhall's quiz, the first four and 'Chinatown' which was a guess as I knew there was a film called that with Jack Nicholson but don't think I've ever watched it. Gaybutton's quiz is too hard for me. The only one I recognise is # 5 which is Ben Hur and the actor speaking those lines is Quintus Arrius played by Jack Hawkins. # 9 is just a guess: Casablanca. #8 another guess: Gandhi
  11. 1. Re the comment from FH about the text. I said this on another Message Board, comment dated 30th March 2011 Followed by my feeble attempts at sarcasm, (sorry Khortose!): 2. I have never been a regular blog-reader, although I have enjoyed reading a handful occasionally but never become a faithful reader of any of them. Why? Could be jealousy, could be I have a short attention span, could be unfamiliarity . . by that I mean blogs are a fairly recent thing, I lived without them for most of my life, why change now? Similar to Facebook, I have no wish to share my life with others in that kind of way but if you are seduced by it at an early age you can become ensnared by it. FH goes on to ask: what, I wonder, makes a blog so special that you always make a point of reading it? I don't know the answer to that as it hasn't happened to me - perhaps if I knew the blogger personally I might be more inclined to become a fan if it was well written in a style I liked. That begs the question re style, as style is a very personal thing rather like comedy/humour, but you know when it clicks for you. I enjoy looking at photos so a blog with an emphasis on that might well appeal to me. Although it is not a gay site, Motel 69 drew our attention to the Stickman site which has some nice photos from time to time, although Stickman is a commentator on Bangkok life rather than a blogger.
  12. Looking good for us eager photo-philics among the membership.
  13. Seems Blair's sleight of hand, financial wizardry or what you want to call it is getting a lot of publicity. Maybe that'll encourage him to be more transparent in future. The tone of the article cited below is kind of "phew, how does he do it, maybe we can all learn something from this guy". Rather than what could be construed as a sneaky admiration for his methods I think the author probably detests Blair, see for example the phrase "levy-restricting methods. . ." http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/pay-as-little-tax-as-tony-blair.html
  14. I can't imagine Fountainhall going along with all that, but assuming it is possible to visit independently I most certainly hope he does, for selfish reasons - namely we on the Forum will be treated to one of his wonderful reports, complete with sumptuous photographs.
  15. In post #17 Pong mentions North Koreans effectively working as slave labour in China and Europe. A recent syndicated (NYT News Service) article in the Bangkok Post informs us north and south meet in the unlikely setting of Siem Reap in Cambodia, where North Korean women double as waitresses and entertainers for a boggling crowd of southerners, jetted in on a package tour that includes dining at Pyongyang restaurant where wine goes for US$30 a glass with meals costing up to $100. Last year more than 260,000 southerners visited Siem Reap, accounting for 16% of all foreigners. Clearly, it is the foreign currency that attracts the North to mount such a charade, and all payment is in crisp US dollar notes, but apparently the South Koreans lap it all up. Good luck to them I guess, but it smacks of nothing much more than goldfish-bowl curiosity to me. By the way, anyone curious about seeing a few North Koreans out of their usual habitat, there's good news, there is a chain of such restaurants - Bangladesh, Dubai, Laos and Nepal are mentioned. __________________________________________________________________________ On an entirely different tangent, it struck me North Korea is an imperfect metaphor for the fate of Kodak, who recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US. Despite the obvious failings of a formerly imperious system, communism, North Korea persists with it flying in the teeth of all logic. The comparison is an obvious one, but I will say it nevertheless, Kodak buried their heads in the sand against the onslaught of digital photographic technology in a vainglorious attempt to protect their once all-powerful ideology, their cameras and the 35mm roll of film, the latter ceasing production in 2009 after 74 years.
  16. As a confirmed bookworm that prospect excites me tremendously - guaranteed to set my pulse racing a lot faster than khun Pong's theories on software glitches!

That's a pretty depressing picture you paint Motel, I feel sorry for these 'herbivores'. Do they eschew meat too as well as girls! I wonder if the women are partly to blame, if they go dutch on a date fair enough but perhaps being Japan they still have a traditional expectation the man pays for the food and drink and entertainment on a night out. If that is the case, you could argue gay guys come out on top financially as they'll go 50:50 on expenses. There was an interesting thread on a similar topic, based in modern-day China, where young heterosexual couples were having to adapt to get a leg up on the property market.
  18. You are right, Fountainhall - I at least was unaware of the 'newest photos' option. Following your step by step guidelines I checked out the first guy on the list of photos that popped up and noticed you and Z909 had also paid him a visit. He is a Thai-American so if some of these men whose names appear are Thai I can see the potential. However the 'good 'ol southern boy' I came across (see my earlier post #10) would no doubt be perfectly at home in a Gay Georgia site, not Gay Thailand! I would add the 'newest photo' option is very discrete and interferes in no way with users of the Message Board forums, unlike my gripe re the 'banner ads'.

    Happy New Year!

Something I didn't realise until I read an article on Chinese New Year is that just quoting the year is misleading. I read that the year of the dragon starts today and lasts until the 9th February next year. So when you give for example a list of years in which the rat gnaws merrily away each individual year is only an approximation.
  20. Out of curiosity and in the interests of research I clicked on one of the rotating 8 gentlemen in the ever-present banner above the Message Board forums and after ascertaining he was a 21 year old Good 'ol southern boy (can you be one at 21!), I rapidly departed. IMO it is not just a slight annoyance, it is very annoying having this banner there every single time you access any of the Forums. On a slow-loading 'net connection like I have just now at my friend's house in Isarn, it is even more so. I would also agree with others' comments that the style of the dating section looks dated and doesn't look good next to the revamped forums. Please, if any of our posters make regular use of the dating option let us know. If as I suspect nobody does I would politely suggest it be removed. I'd be perfectly happy for it to stay on the main Gay Thailand page, but not for it to hang around like a heavy shroud on all the Forum pages. I say all this hopefully in the spirit of constructiveness.
  21. Good to see you back posting on the Forum Mr Bill. I have only visited Thailand once during July / August and do not recall any problems with the weather. Obviously you are aware you are not going to get lovely sunny days and cool nights so provided your expectations are realistic in that regard you will be able to enjoy the non-weather-related aspects just as much as at any other time of the year. For tourists travelling from the UK, July and August coincide with the school summer holidays and flights tend to be more expensive. Maybe that happens in N.America too. Hopefully that will not be a big factor in your decision-making but I mention it just in case.
  22. Re: The conundrum of rapidly retreating rears. Undignified it may be, but just imagine the spoils of the chase, the sweet spot of some delightful close-up shots - resulting not from dexterous or liberal use of the lazy man's friend, the zoom lens, but by good old-fashioned legging it in 'hot pursuit'.

I have this strange fantasy, the sirens take pity on me, and swim out to the boat, I am somewhat bewildered but have the presence of mind to lower a lifeboat into which I secrete myself as surreptitiously as possible, I then throw each of the two sirens a lifebuoy and haul them aboard, thus availing myself of the lifeboat's scrumptious contents. Although only a fantasy I trust that clears up any misunderstanding over my earlier assertion that I would bugger the lifeboats, as clearly that would be no mean feat.
  24. Rogie

Koko's 'siren' theory is indeed worthy of serious contemplation. Please, if any readers know of a cruise that sails close to shore where such siren beauties can be glimpsed, I will make arrangements to jump ship, and bugger the lifeboats.
  25. I wonder if anyone has seen Secrets of the Forbidden City, a documentary made in 2008 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-563688/Revenge-evil-emperor-Mass-slaughter-Beijings-Forbidden-City.html ______________________________________________________________ On a loosely-related issue, I wonder why what I grew up to understand as the Ching dynasty at some stage morphed into the Qing dynasty. I always, and still do, pronounce it as spelt with the ch pronounced as in cheese. As I have absolutely no idea how to pronounce a word starting in 'Q' without a following 'u', I wonder if others can tell me why the change in spelling from a formerly easily pronounced word into something only leaned scholars can understand!
