As most Americans and Brits are aware, the Fourth of July is the birthday of the USA with the signing of the Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776.  

There was, likewise, a new birth of freedom* for the nation some 87 years later, 4 July 1863, at a small town, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

 

The Confederate (Southern) Army under the command of General Robert E. Lee had ventured into Pennsylvania in the hope of changing the course of the war. He was met by the Union Army (Northern) under the command of General George Meade and thus ensued the greatest battle of the American Civil War. This battle continued for three days from 1 July to 3 July leading to the defeat and retreat of Lee's Army on 4 July 1863. Combined casualties totaled 50,000 including 7,500 dead on the field of battle.

This was the turning point of the American Civil War in favor of the Union.

Just as important, but not as recognized was U. S. Grant's victory at Vicksburg, on that same July 4th, which allowed the North to cut the South into pieces.
 

The greatest victory for the Union is still to come.

It is the defeat of Donald Trump and his cronies.
