August 23, 20197 yr From Bangkok Post Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) has renewed a long-standing dispute with Central Pattana Plc (CPN) over its new luxury shopping complex by demanding a halt to construction just days before its scheduled launch on Aug 31. AoT president Nitinai Sirismatthakan said on Friday that the agency had ordered work at the Central Village site near Suvarnabhumi airport to stop as the project could pose problems for the airport. The airport operator claimed the 184-rai project could cause traffic congestion on roads to Suvarnabhumi, and lighting in the area could confuse pilots guiding planes to land at the airport. Central Village has been built on a plot rented from the Treasury Department. August 24, 20197 yr Yet another almighty Thai screw up. Way back when Central Village was planned, clearly far too much money was handed over under the table for the politicians concerned not to go ahead. And the whole project has just been steamrollered with the left hand never agreeing what the right was doing. Now it seems incoming flights may land in a branch of Maxim's of Paris! Hope there's plenty of caviar to go around I remain curious, though. Where on this planet is there a country's "first luxury shopping mall" on the doorstep of its main international airport?
August 31, 20197 yr From The Nation Central Village is open for business Central Pattana is on Saturday (August 31) formally adding Central Village to its roster of shopping malls that includes Central Plaza, Central Festival and Central World. CPN president and chief executive Preecha Ekkunagul and directors Suthikiatis Chirathivat and Sudhitham Chirathivat presided at the opening ceremony starting at 10.39am. Central Village represents an investment of more than Bt5 billion investment and was five years in the planning. September 3, 20197 yr From Bangkok Post Yet another outlet mall slated to open near Swampy The shopping landscape is about to change drastically around Suvarnabhumi airport with the addition of two new premium outlet malls, representing a challenge to the retail throne dominated by the local duty-free kingpin. Central Village, a 5-billion-baht project of Central Pattana Plc (CPN), is beset with regulatory issues raised by Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) and has set its footprint by moving into an area dominated by duty-free giant King Power Group. The outlet opened Saturday on a site just a 10-minute drive from the airport.
