I'm probably overlooking something very simple but I cannot find how to create a new folder to store and/or direct emails to. Anyone happen to know how in gmail I can do this?

gmail has a user group message board which can be very helpful. Last week I was trying to help someone change their password and all the obvious "channels" led to a dead end. Within 15 minutes of my posting on the user group message board, my problem was solved. Try it!

Gmail's equivalent of folders are called "Labels". You first create a "Label" and then use "Filters" in order to associate incoming emails meeting the filter criteria with the desired "Label". More info on labels below:

Anton this isn't really new information however many people probably don't pay attention to what they're agreeing to so worth a post.

I prefer gmail's very low key advertising over the constant in your face ad style of yahoo or hotmail. In reality the only ads I've seen associated with my gmail account have been text based.

Personally I don't care if they scan my email. They're not reading it, the scan is to pick out specific keywords that appear multiple times. This is how they determine what text ads to feed to the user.

To date I haven't had any problems with gmail.

My only complaint is I can't figure out how to get rid of their new google talk integration that now appears to the left of the window.

Someone messaged me on that today for the first time. It frightened me so much! This little popping up and saying hello. When I'm on email it doesn't mean I want to chat. They really need to seperate the two things.
