June 25, 200719 yr Did anybody follow this series? It should have been of little interest to history buffs, who would have been driven frantic by all the inexact history. On the other hand, the series had much to offer those of us who are partial to nookie. The sex scenes amounted to soft-core porn, stopping just short of full frontals of Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Pity. Casting him as Henry VIII was one of the more glaring inaccuracies, but I'm willing to forgive all. One inaccuracy I wish had been perpetrated is getting Henry and Suffolk (Henry Cavill) naked and writhing together. Hubba hubba. I harbor a wistful hope for next season.
June 25, 200719 yr Active Members I agree with your comments. What it lacked in historical accuracy it made up for in the earthier aspects of dramatic presentation. More that a few hot men sprinkled among the lines. And a bit of homoactivity in court was presented. Probably not something that would have been incorporated in the production a few years ago. I also await season two. Not quite up to Rome IMO or the Showtime series about terrorists among us but still an easy choice over most TV and cable fare today. Cable seems to have taken the lead in quality programming as the broadcast networks flounder over their vacuous offerings to attract the bubblegum demogrpahic, cut costs to nil thru game shows, attract paid infomercials for filler and ceding Saturday nights to 'encore presentations' of what little original programming they offer because the bubblegum crowd is out on the town.

I’ve been watching the reruns of seasons one and two running on Showtime2 and have become decadently wrapped up in the show. Since I am not a student of history I can’t comment on its historical accuracy but frankly all I care about is that Johnathan Rhys Meyrs (King Henry VIII) is easy on the eyes has lots of bedroom scenes…

April 3, 200917 yr Season 3 promises to take up where 1 and 2 left off. There will be no reference to reality, which will be overwhelmed by beautifying blizzards of fairy dust. Henry's court will be shown as populated exclusively by beautiful women and to-die-for hunks, all sporting perfect, dazzling dentition. Henry himself won't descend into stomach-turning grossness as he did in real life. He'll remain as gorgeous as nature, makeup, lighting and camera work can make Jonathan Rhys Meyers look. I intend to follow the series with tenacity and conviction, punctuated by wails of lust.
April 3, 200917 yr henry was quite handsome in his younger days, about 42 when married ann boyleyn, but he certainly didn't watch his weight. he also had a maladorous wound, yikes, oozing and with pustules, so it became a hard go. but he was King. i hated the series, loved Rome, surprised that it didn't get renewed, and thought hbo did a really good job with it. i especially loved the graffiti on the back of the chariots or on the walls, there is evidence that that was true. flash back for those who didn't see, I Claudius, just loved that series, and then read the books underlying the series, and only at the end did i discover that it was fiction, i thought it was based on fact and that they really did these scrolls. fiction is great, historical fiction, have mixed emotions, so many people get their history from these movies/series, and it's just more dumbing down of america. agree, the people look really good in the series, but for my money, thankful i came after indoor plumbing and antibiotics.
