I am looking for the best choices to go from Sao Paulo to Porto Alegre and then to Rio and back to Sao Paulo. I do carry a few 70 pound bags. What are the baggage restrictions in Brazil? Is this going to cost me a fortune?

When I went back and forth from Sao Paulo to Rio so often, I had a car service take me with my luggage in the back and on the top. Now, I am looking for best way to go the route above. Thanks.

Oz, I really like GOL Airlines (www.voegol.com.br) I have flown about 50 flights on them, and have often done the routing your talking about.

On this up coming trip I land in S.P. and take GOL to Porto Alegre and than P.A. back to Rio and then Rio to S.P. GOL is Brazil's version of Southwest airlines. their planes are newer 737's, very efficient and have flights almost every hour from P.A. to S.P. and about 5 times a day to Rio direct.

they have tighter weight restrictions on carryons. I always do only carryons for my flights to Brazil and never a issue but GOL makes u check if they are over i think it's 15 Kilos, or about 33 lbs. Brazilians often travel with a lot of luggage so I don't think u will have a problem.

btw, Porto Alegre's airport is a newer very nice airport with about a dozen restuarants upstairs above ticketing to wait for your flght.

I would do it online, GOL's prices go up every day as you get close to the flight date. I just looked and you can get S.P.(cgh) to P.A. for $179R and P.A. to Rio for $149 to 189.R depending on time of day. pretty cheap right now!

when you click on the link at the far top right you will see Brasil with a down arrow, click on that and it will bring up the other So. American countries and the last one will say "other countries" click on that and it will be in in English

I fly GOL on my excursions to Floripa. I have found it quite easy to book on line well ahead of time.

In Sao Paulo, would you travel from: SAO-Guarulhos-SP(GRU)

In Rio, would you travel from: RIO-Galeao-RJ(GIG)

Are you getting one way ticket each time? Do you have business class on these flights? I did not see that as an option.

I would take Congonhas CGH rather then GRU it will save you alot of time.

for Rio due GIG as the flights from SDU are limited all connect thru S.P. where you can fly direct to/from GIG to P.A. and back. I do the one way as I am usually not doing roundtrips.. my typical ticket is GRU to POA first weekend, POA to GIG on that monday and than GIG to GRU on the last weekend, with the weekends on both ends being either P.A. or S.P.

Somewhere else it was mentioned how frustrating it can be to try to book a flight on GOL Airlines in Brazil from a US computer. Now Delta airlines has bought a $100 million dollar share in GOL, which will allow it to see connecting flights on the airline. This might mean you have to fly on Delta first, I am not sure.

American has a code share agreement with GOL which expires next year.
