When hearing about sexual harassment of katoey, most people do not take it seriously but often make fun of them. They are exploited and humiliated in many ways, with some people viewing them as sex toys, the researcher added. Instead of dominating people with heterosexual thinking, social institutions, including legal and educational bodies, should encourage society to learn and respect other ways of thinking about sexual preferences, Kittikorn said.
