January 11, 201115 yr There is a new cable show called Shameless. I just watched the first episode. I enjoyed it. It did remind me a bit of The Riches out a few years back and that show didn't make it too long. Anyone else catch a glimpse of this show?

I watched it and thought it was ok... not sure how long it will last. I did like the way they developed the gay character because it really is unlike most portrayal of gay characters in the mainstream media these days. he's a rascal, gun-toting ROTC, closeted kid struggling with his identity. Kind of cool actually. It will be interesting to see if his sexual escapades with his married convenience store boss will result in additional drama as that relationship is a felony in the state of Illinois. And most classic lines from the movie as the straight brother and gay brother sit in the truck sharing a cigarette: Straight brother: And you take it up the ass? That's just not right! Gay brother: hmpf Striaght brother: It's part of your digestive system, and it's only meant for one way traffic Gay brother: Oh yeah, like our lungs were just created for us to put smoke in them.
January 11, 201115 yr everything old is new again. Shameless was and is a series from the UK. What we're seeing now is a facsimile of an incredible original.
January 11, 201115 yr For anyone who doesnt have Showtime, you can catch the episodes at www.hulu.com And as a side note, they have already featured quite a bit of male nudity, both rear and full frontal. Remember Steve Howey, who portrayed Reba'a son-in-law? He showed it all off on the pilot episode.
January 11, 201115 yr I suspect Hulu is only going to show the first episode only. I seriously doubt Showtime will be allowing Hulu to air all of the episodes (unless it is only part of the paid subscription on Hulu). I loved the show. It was interesting and I liked the characters and they way they are developing the story.

January 12, 201115 yr I do not claim to know all the "workings" of hulu, but they show all episodes of Glee, so why not all episodes of this???
January 12, 201115 yr Because Showtime is a pay network and Fox is not. Hulu doesn't have rights to most CBS shows either. It would not be in Showtimes best interest to offer Internet viewing for free when they want you to subscribe to Showtime.

Because the age of consent in Illinois is 17 (which the portrayed character may or may not be)... it doesnt really say but he is the younger brother of another kid in high school. But the key law is the Illinois law that makes is a felony for anyone to have sex under the age of 18 if you are "in a position of authority or trust" with the minor. That's an interesting law because what the hell does "trust" mean? Does that mean that a 19 yo can marry a 17 yo under the age of consent law, but as soon as they are husband and wife and in a position of trust, then having sex is illegal? But interpretative problems aside, I think the law would be clear that someone under 18 having sex with their boss at a convenience store would violate that law. Clearly this show is in Chicago, clearly the character is a minor, and clearly he is having sex with his boss. (I thought the seen was well done, btw) Older brother comes in the back door after the store is closed and is yelling his brother's name... you hear scrambling around and then the kid and the owner come rushing out of the back looking a bit dissheveled and muttering "let's stock it there". They are each wearing one of each other's shoes.... Older brother, "What, you're fucking HIM?" lol
