I assume the asterisk means plus taxes, fuel surcharges etc. which probably adds at least $200 more). CX also has an offer going the other way. From Hong Kong, for around US$700 - $815 plus usual surcharges they have a ticket to either LAX or JFK plus 4 FREE sectors within the USA (presumably on AA). The sales period ends Sept 30 but travel need not be completed till May 31. Not sure if there is a similar ticket available ex BKK.
