Any Recommendations for hotel in Chiang Rai?

Will be spending a few days in Chiang Rai soon - any recommendations for gay hotels or gay friendly ones?

I believe you will find the information you seek at the following URL:

Let the page fully load. The top part of the page deals with Chiang Mai, but if you wait for the page to completely load from the above URL it will place you on the Chiang Rai information area.

There are no gay hotels in Chiang Rai. There have been some threads on this forum listing where hotels central to the two gay bars are located. The Dusit is the nicest hotel in town but a bit out of the way.

I stay in my BF's home when in CR, so no first hand knowledge of the hotels. :-)

While in CR, try to visit Doi Mae Salong which is tea growing town high in the mountains. Visit the temple on the hill above the town while there. Also, the White Temple, the Golden Triangle area and Chiang Saen, and Doi Tung are all worth visits.

I am a resident of Chiang Rai. There are 2 small boy bars, both with limited selection and no customers (boring). To answer your question, the Wangcome is in the center of the tourist area and is quite adequate. If you wish to spend a little more, then try the Wiang Inn. The Dusit is about 1 km away and you have to rely on their transportation to leave the hotel -- also considerably more expensive. There aren't any really gay friendly businesses that I am aware of, although my bf and I have never experienced any problems anywhere. A straight friend once asked me "Where do you find the gay life in Chiang Rai?", My answer "you're looking at it".

Ron, starting in late Nov, I will be staying in Mae Chan off and on for several months while the BF and I set up housekeeping in Chiang Mai.

The BF and his mother now have a very gay friendly restaurant in Mae Chan near the main bank and the new Tesco Lotus there. It is a buffet restaurant--all you can eat for 49 baht. Look for the big "49 baht" sign.

Welcome to the board. Maybe we can hook up one evening for drinks or the like once I am there. Actually, anyone in the Chiang Rai area this winter, let me know, and I'll be happy to meet up.
