May 24, 201214 yr Active Members James Doohan, Scotty on the original Star Trek, wished to be cremated and have his cremains "beyond the earth's atmosphere" had his wish granted a short time ago. An unmanned space shot took 300 cremains into orbit where they will remain for about 1 year before burning up returning to earth. A fitting tribute for those wishing to do this. Cool. May 24, 201214 yr If this becomes a trend, what will physical anthropologists of the distant future have to work with when trying to determine what 21st century humans were like? For that matter, if there is a suspicion in the near future that Scotty's wife poisoned him, there will be no forensic evidence to confirm it. I want to be buried, intact, in the earth, for the sake of future scientists.
May 24, 201214 yr I think this is so nice they were able to do this for Scotty. He is certainly a beloved Science Fiction character. I actually have instructions in my will that I'm to be cremated and the ashes are to be immediately destroyed/disposed of. The idea of being buried sickens me as well as potentially sitting on some shelf somewhere.
