August 12, 201214 yr Active Members You Phoenix people... How do you put up with those dust storms? I am aware of at least two this summer. Maybe more? I've seen what volcanic ash has done to homes, cars, planes, etc. It is impossible to keep from penetrating everywhere no matter the precautions. I suspect dust in dust storms is pretty much the same. This is bad enough on the locust cycle -- seventeen years or so -- but yearly and worse twice in one summer a few weeks apart. EGAD!! How do you do it?
August 13, 201214 yr I just stay inside.. For those of us who live more in the "inner city" areas, it isnt too terrible. The outlying areas that have more open desert get the brunt of the dust storms. Pools are unusable the next day.. Car washes have lines of cars waiting to get cleaned. Until last year, I had never heard of the term Haboob. That is what the big dust storms are now called. For anyone not familiar with what we are talking about, here is a video of one from last year
