This sex assignment case is tragic. I'm not sure what would happen in ancient times when a baby was born with both genitals.. Were they killed? or kept secret? I hope people can approach this matter more carefully.

Good for these parents. One hopes a huge judgment in their favor can help end these, as you imply, medieval brutalities.

A huge judgment might get their attention but that generally is a shared economic burden (insurance). A little time in the pokey to re-think their philosophy might be in order.

US legal history supports your comment. The most likely way an MD will go to the pokey is for income tax evasion. One of my favorites had this result. Sent him to Camp Fed in Texarkana where he promptly resumed medical practice but presumably not tax evasion.

I wonder what's behind the part of the story that he was in foster care when the sexual assignment surgery was performed. Did the parents object then to the surgery and did the state take over?

My heart goes out to this child. I hope the confused kid gets all the help he needs to have a fulfilling life.
