i would like to know, if you have any experiance with atlantico copacabana hotel between ipanema and copacabana.

i would likeo to know paricularly about visitation policy and if they charghe fee for visitors ?

I suggest you do a search at the top of this site for Atlantico. There are 3 pages of threads about the hotel.

They do have an easy visitation system from my understanding.

I stayed there only one night about 12 years ago and I had to leave for the slow Internet was a major issue for me.

From 2001 to 2010 I stayed at the Hotel Atlantico many many times! I don't think I was ever questioned once about bringing guests in, but also after that many visits I knew the staff well. In 2003 we threw a "hooboy" party on the rooftop that the hotel catered and 25 Americans and about 80 "boys" showed up. So the hotel was gay friendly.

About two years ago there was a big change in staffing and most of the long term front desk people were fired or quit. This was at the same time that I decided to start renting apartments there as it was less expensive then a hotel, the hotel was getting more run down, the bedding etc needed serious updating and I wanted a more convienent location to Ipanema instead of Copacabana, so my current information is 2nd hand but I have been told by a couple of friends that have stayed there this year that they were still able to bring guests but they did have to leave the their I.D. at the desk. As far as I know there was no charge for the guest(but in Brazil Always book the room for 2 persons when you make the reservation so they can't say the room was only booked for one person!)

Twice this past year, after midnight, the hotel was robbed at gunpoint by guys walking into the lobby and holding up the front desk clerks so I would guess that they have probably tightened their security which is why they are now asking for I.D.'s

i have stayed at atlantico myself. but, because of all the troubles you mention, i inteded to move to atlantis copacabana hotel at rua bulhoes de carvalho 61.

it was not written a lot about this hotel on the posts in the past.

another member here, Drey, is the owner of another site, Gaytravelbrazil and he used to be a travel agent specializing in brazil. He talked about the atlantis several years ago as a good alternative to the Atlantico. But that was right about the time where hotel rates in Brazil went thru the roof, and more of the frequent visitors (myself included) started renting apartments instead of staying in hotels.

If you are going to be in Rio for more than a couple of days, I would suggest looking into an apartment. For usually less than you will pay at a 3 star hotel for a basic room, you can rent a complete apartment. Most of the apartment buildings have 24 hour doormen, and most allow you to have guests at no additional charge. Apartments do run the gamut from cheap and basic, to luxurious penthouses with private pools. A site which has been used by myself and several other posters is www.rioapartmentrental.com. They are a great company to deal with. Very honest and reputable.
