January 26, 201412 yr This movie was on a list of best gay movies, and had a 90% critics rating at rottentomatoes.com, so I filled some empty space on a Saturday night watching it. I hadn't gathered that it was a movie that had as a central character a crack pipe, and probably wouldn't have watched it had I known ahead of time. But the lead character, Eric, is an engaging guy, an aspiring film maker, and kind of cute. After some one night stands, he meets the closeted lawyer Paul, who has a girl friend and a job, and, we find out, a crack habit. Eric learns this on the second date, yet pursues Paul anyway. What ensues is a sometimes very erotic relationship which we view over a period of nine years.There's an intervention followed by rehab and you can guess the rest. Yet Eric stays madly in love, even watching Paul get fucked by a hot escort. There's lots of fucking in the movie. My main problem with the movie, which is quite well acted, is that I found Paul completely unlikable. He's selfish and stoned most of the time. How he keeps a job as a lawyer is not told. But, I watched it all, some 100 minutes. Then I went back to rotten tomatoes and saw that the viewer rating was quite less than the critics rating- 62%. January 26, 201412 yr Active Members Too many movie reviewers want to pretend they're "critics" and spend way too much time burnishing their art creds. They ain't critics, they're just fucking movie reviewers. Tell me (roughly) what the film is about. Tell me what you liked about, what didn't work for you. Was the acting any good? Were there huge holes in the plot? And, if there are some real cuties, clue me in on that too, especially if they're taking off their clothes. Mainly what I want from a review is help deciding whether it's worth a 70 mile round trip and 3 or 4 hours of my time to see it. All of which you packed into your review, Paragon.
