February 11, 201412 yr Shirley Temple Black, the former child star who later became a U.S. ambassador, has died at 85, her publicist says. I have great memories of her when I was a kid as I was able to watch her on TV. What a beautiful gal she was!
February 11, 201412 yr Active Members A full and accomplished life....I also have fond memories of her from her movies. Growing up my dad would always make me a Shirley Temple (cocktail) when he and my mom would enjoy their adult beverages. RIP
February 11, 201412 yr She was the US Ambassador to Czechoslovakia when the Velvet Revolution took place, and she endeared herself to the Czechs by supporting the rebels against the government. She later told an interviewer that she felt her main job at the time was to "keep Vaclav Havel out of jail," and she accompanied him when he came to the US as the new president. I lived in Czechoslovakia shortly after the revolution, and people were always asking me if I knew her (duh...no.)
