Remember these retro games? You can play them free

Thanks to the work of the Internet Archive you can now play thousands of computer games from your youth in a browser window, including the original Championship Manager, Doom and Sim City

A treasure trove of 2,400 MS-DOS games has been made freely available on the internet and can be played directly from your browser window.

The library of games launched by the Internet Archive include the original Championship Manager from 1992, The Oregon Trail and Doom.

Even classics like Sim City, Street Fighter II and Duke Nukem 3D are present and correct.

The archive is easily browsable and the games can be run in most browsers with the click of a button no software needs to be installed on your computer.

That functionality is thanks to the EM-DOSBOX emulator which runs inside a browser and, although the Internet Archive warns that the software is still in beta testing, we had no problems running the games here at the Telegraph.

The Internet Archive is a non-profit digital library run from San Francisco which relies on charitable donations. It maintains a collection of books, music, films and websites that is said to be ten petabytes large.

It also operates the Wayback Machine which saves snapshots of millions of websites at regular intervals, allowing people to go back and see what they looked like in previous months and years.
