Flu shots will be available at the Pattaya Ex-pats Club meeting, 9:30 am, Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Henry J. Beans Restaurant on Beach Road (next to Amari Hotel) for the cost of 600 baht. A nurse from Phayathai Hospital Sriracha will admister the shots. They will have 70 doses of the 2009 flu vaccine available with 45 people already signed up for the shot. Everyone is welcome at the Sunday meetings. If you want to join the club, that is also an option. Come join in the fun, learn something new, and meet some new friends. To help defray the cost of using HJB facilities they usually ask members and guests to purchase a buffet ticket at the door or, if you do not want a full breakfast, at least the toast and coffee or tea. If you are not staying for the meeting, perhaps you will be able to just receive your flu shot and leave without buying a breakfast or coffee ticket. I am not sure.

Actually, I don't think it's too much of a problem in Thailand. I don't think it can hurt anything to get the shot, but as for whether you need it, I would ask a doctor, although Lvdkeyes and Topjohn5 might be able to give us their opinion. Both are knowledgeable.

Personally, I would suggest getting flu shots since most of us have contact with several people and the possibility of getting the flu is greater. A boy could be with another farang who just arrived and has the flu virus, maybe not even having symptoms, then you "spend time" with that same boy and he passes it on without knowing he has been exposed, etc. Older people and young children especially should be vaccinated. This is my opinion.

Older people, young children and anyone with immune problems should seriously think about getting a flu shot. I am told the shot will only protect you from the three or four strains of the virus that the doctors think will be the worst this season. For 600 baht it might be prudent.
