November 17, 200817 yr In the past I have enjoyed Happy Boys even though I am not there very frequently. Today I took my friend from the USA to show him this unique bar. Unfortunately, they now are allowing smoking in the bar. I asked the owner/manager if he would please enforce the policy as he was sitting outside smoking. I thought he would simply tell the guy that was smoking to step outside, but he did not. He just said, "You can smoke in every bar now. In every bar they let you smoke." I said that I had just come from Crazy Dragon, Nice Boys, Euro Boys, and JJJ. None of those permitted smoking inside the air conditioned bar. He started to tell me that he was a smoker and it was not a problem. The police don't care he said. I am sorry that he had that attitude. I am thinking of callinf the city and asking if there is any enforcement of the policy
November 17, 200817 yr If you get that kind of an answer take out your cell phone dial the tourist police and move on. I am sure after a 20,000 baht fine a couple fo times they will adhere to the smoking ban.
November 17, 200817 yr The owner is a rather unpleasant creature in most other aspects. Not a happy person.
November 17, 200817 yr I would vote with your feet. Leave and don't go back. As far as calling in the tourist police or city hall, that would not be good karma. What goes around, comes around. Why worry about it? It is not like that is the only bar in town.
November 17, 200817 yr I It is not like that is the only bar in town. In many respects, for me, it is the only bar in town which offers what I like. A very happy time in the upper lounge. After bar hopping earlier in the evening I often end up at Happy for a nightcap and a happy ending to the night.

Sounds like you are going to have to put up with a smoke-filled bar, if you are to achieve your happy ending.
November 18, 200817 yr Sounds like you are going to have to put up with a smoke-filled bar, if you are to achieve your happy ending. Well, in the upper lounge there is a lot of "smoking" going on and it seems to contribute to a happy ending.
November 18, 200817 yr I had a chance to go to Happy Bar, last night. I was there just for one drink and did not see or smell any signs of smoking. As an ex-smoker, I am usually pretty good at smelling stale smoke. I saw no ashtrays around, but did see a lot of very nice boys. Sad thing about it was, there was no smoking for me and the guy I fancied was only interested in "chuck wow."
November 18, 200817 yr Good thinking, luvthai. Might I suggest that PattayaMale also informs the police that he has irrefutable evidence, in the form of a DNA-testable semen stain on his pants, that on the premises there are young men prostituting themselves. This, I understand, is illegal in Thailand. I'm sure the police would be interested to hear, and it would give him the satisfaction of killing two birds with one phone call and of knowing that his attitude to the implementation of law in Thailand was consistent across the board, not a matter of personal, and probably neurotic, preferences.
November 19, 200817 yr Sad thing about it was, there was no smoking for me and the guy I fancied was only interested in "chuck wow." My experience has been, when one goes for a session in the upper lounge, at least one other of the staff will join in and, shall we say, puff away on your cigar, if you wish.
November 19, 200817 yr Good thinking, luvthai. Hear, hear........I was trying to find the right words, but you're one step ahead.

My feelings exactly, Piston. Move on, PattayaMale, if there is an inconsiderate smoker about. And why would you want to be a snitch, LuvThai? That is all we need. Let's call city hall, tourist police, and the "boys in brown" to destroy what many see as a very good bar.
