Exchange Rate Hits 35 to the US Dollar

The baht to US dollar exchange rate has finally arrived at 35 baht to the dollar. I'll post the daily opening and closing rates on this thread for the time being and we'll see how it goes:

OPENING RATES:

I got money from my US bank via ATM yesterday and got 35.136/$1

Good News. I didn't think would see that again for some time. Also the price of gas is $1.95 a gallon at the pumps which is great news also. Now if the airlines would adjust their fuel tariffs as well.

Actually there was a prediction a few months back, even before all the PAD crisis began, that the baht would reach 35 to the US dollar by the end of the year. Obviously, now it has. I hope it stays that way and continues moving favorably in our direction for a change.

I am not much of an economist, but shouldn't the rate continue to rise with the protest and unrest in Bangkok???

Time will tell, but I think the baht will weaken further against the USD. At least, I hope so.

Funny that the rate should still be unfavourable for Malaysians. We get about RM9.50 to Baht 100 in spite of our better economy - and that on top of the fact that our Ringgit, while no longer pegged to the US Dollar, still follows it quite closely.

I made a purchase today with my US debit card and got an exchange rate of 35.49.

I'm not surprised. At the moment the rate is showing at 35.50. I expect the rate to fluctuate a little back and forth for a while. Then, once the effects of the airport takeovers start to really be felt, if it happens a predicted I'm guessing the dollar will become stronger against the baht.
