During the last week or so some of the bar owners or bar managers told me many boys had gone back to their village for the New Year celebration. Some also promised that many "new" boys were coming to work after the New Year.

 

So in a few days we should see............ Any bets?

Ha sip/ha sip. I have heard this for oh so many years. I think it is a fifty/fifty chance.

When a boy goes back to his village he spreads the word about the "riches" to be earned in Pattaya.

 

I suspect it's rare for a Issan boy to head off to Pattaya if he knows nobody, but if he has a friend who will let him crash on the floor and lend him 500 baht for food, and can get him a job, then myabe he'll move to the big city.

If there will be a lot of new faces, I haven't seen very many yet. Several of the boys who went home told me they'll be back around the 10th of the month.

 

I'm going to guess that there will be a good number of "new boys" coming to town to seek their fortune. Even with the tourist numbers down, the number of gay farang seems to be rapidly increasing. The gay beach area today was quite crowded with farang, although there were very few boys other than the regulars. Others may come and go, but the gays keep the faith! I think the boys will too.

 

Coming to the bar scene, getting away from the watchful eyes of parents, a chance to experience the big city life, the prospect of finding a sugar-daddy are all temptations that are hard to resist when the alternative is a dead end job that pays practically nothing, if they can even find such a job, or working like a dog on the rice farm. I think there will be plenty who decide to give it a try. We'll see.

I have often wondered if the boys go thru a training of sorts when they enter the bar business for the first time. Who teaches them to sa-moke kiss etc. Just being new off the farm I'm sure the boys aren't versed on handeling farangs.

Isn't it counter productive for boys to go back home and encourage others to follow him back to Pattaya? More competition, less offs/less money, makes no sense to me. Thats like me telling other cabbies I found a great spot to rank only to then find myself sitting in a long queue of taxis.

I spent lots of time behind the wheel a long time ago so it's always interesting to see a cab driving analogy.

 

Think it's more like suggesting someone work for a specific garage rather than telling a random cabbie a secret place to wait for fares.

 

Brings back memories of queuing up at the Anvil and Mineshaft at 5AM. B)
