For those in Bangkok - or thinking of adding a medical check-up to their trip here - Bumrungrad Hospital has recently moved its regular check-up 'station' to the 11th floor in the new annexe building. It's all rather like a nice conveyor belt with even a small breakfast room so you can eat and drink something (included in the cost) after the ultrasound and x-rays.

 

The complete package (recommended for over 40's) costs Bt. 13,000 (approx. US$375). It takes around 4 hours. A doctor will go through all the test results with you at the end. A full paper report is available within 24 hours.

 

What I did not discover till I got there, however, is that there is a 10% discount if you start on the conveyor after 11:00 am.

 

It was all extremely thorough and professional. When I mentioned to the eye doctor that I had previously had an operation to reattach a retina and subsequent laser treatment, he proposed I stay an extra 30 minutes so he could give me a retina check - at no extra cost.

That is a very god price when compared to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.

 

I had this checkup done at Bumrungrad. They found blocked arteries put I put off having an angioplasty since I thought I should make sure my insurance would pay for it.

 

4 days later I had a heart attack.......... This is true so the idea of a yearly checkup is a good idea.

I have having a physical check up tomorrow at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital and it cost me 11,245, so it is cheaper than Bumrungard. It includes blood work including PSA and HIV test, chest x-ray, EKG, Echocardiogram (in place of the stress test per my request), abdominal ultrasound, hearing test, eye test, vascular screening, UGI, urine and stool test. It normally is twice that price, but I purchased it during the promotion in honor of His Majesty the King's birthday. The promotion dates for purchase are Nov 15 to Dec 31 and the exam can be done anytime up to Mar 31. The promotion is available every year. This will be the 3rd time for me to have it done, well worth the $325 USD.

I went to Saint Louis Hospital in BKK this past October 2008 as they have a whole floor (21st I think) for skin care. I had been there twice before as I unfortunatly have continuing skin problems that are pre-cancerous, and need to have them removed periodically. This last visit I also got a check up there, having a choice of 5 different levels of the check up. All were very reasonable. I went with the mid-grade check-up, and they took me right in. I can't find my paperwork from there now that I'm back in the states, so can't quote any prices, just remember the great service, friendly people and very inexpensive when compared to home.

Yes, I agree. I suspect most hospitals' check-ups are virtually similar in cost. It's what is included that accounts for most of the difference. The Pattaya Bangkok Hospital's 50% discount window makes it worthwhile to make a special trip - to Boystown and Sunee B)
