Everyone that lives there seems to thrive there and love it. For me, time in Pattaya seems to blend in day after day and it is easy to get lost and wake up and 4 months have passed. There are many things to love about Pattaya but what specific draws gay men there other than the sex? What is it that compels many to settle there and retire there as opposed to other areas of Thailand? What makes Pattaya so special for gay men?

My favorite town is Chiang Mai but for ease of getting around and better entertainmet options Pattaya is far and ahead of other places in thailand. Bangkok is just to crowded for me but I do enjoy a weekend there once in awhile.

For me it is the access to the beach, the sea air is good for my allergies, easy access to BKK and the airport.

One of the things I appreciate about Pattaya is that there are many like thinking guys that are my age to talk and socialize with.

 

I also like the smallness of the city compared to Bangkok and the fact that there are still many western products here

There are many things to love about Pattaya but what specific draws gay men there other than the sex?

 

Answer? Nothing, other than the sex! Well, not totally true since I very much enjoy the camaraderie of fellow farang of like mind. And Pattaya is on a scale that there is easy access to all venues.

 

 

 

What makes Pattaya so special for gay men?

I agree fully with LVDKeyes and Pattayamale. Bangkok is just too polluted for me, to be just 2 hours from its cultural events is close enough for me.

In the past few years the number of vehicles on Sukhumvit highway; Beach Road; Second Road, South Pattaya Road and the roads to Jomtien have become a nightmare of traffic at peak times with baht busses, trucks, cars, motocycles and busses spewing fumes everywhere.

The sea is so polluted with raw sewage that most beach goers no longer dare set foot in the sea for fear of breaking out in an itchy rash.

The noise from vehicles, building sites and nightlife venues is a 24/7 cacophony.

 

Bangkok is rated as one of the least polluted capital cities in Asia: check out the air quality in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Delhi, Seoul, Jacarta, Taipei or Beijing? All of them rate much worse than Bangkok. Regretably, Pattaya is fast catching up with Bangkok for air and noise pollution but, unlike Bangkok, there seems to be no official plans to reduce the spread.

I've tried Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket which I collectively call all the rest. I will stick with Chiang Mai which to me is clearly the best.

I would not dream of suggesting Pattaya does not suffer from pollution.

 

Living high above Jomtien Beach though, I am almost always treated to clean ocean breezes.

 

It seems the last 4 times I visited Bangkok, I got sick upon return each time. Upper respiratory infection. The doctors I saw blamed Bangkok pollution.

 

Friends living in Bangkok all comment on how they breath better here.

Around this time of year, fly into Hong Kong and the chances are you will see an orange/brownish globe of gunge covering the territory which you have to fly through to get to the airport. It looks awful from the air; less so on the ground. But pollution there for much of the year is now a lot worse than Bangkok, so much so that a considerable number of expatriates are moving their families away.

 

I have lived in Bangkok for more than 7 years. I find you can not bracket all the city in one category. There are polluted areas, certainly, but there are also residential districts with far better air quality. The wind factor helps, but I have never felt bad in Bangkok as I have in Hong Kong, Beijing and Seoul.

I will stay here in Ubon Ratchathani. The sky is clear blue with little or no smog, it is very cool at night and nice during the day, and the pace is easy. Now, if you want gay bars every night, then stay away from here....but if you're looking for a good place to live with a nice easy pace...then this is good!

I lived in Pattaya 3 years. I like Pattaya because of good stores, good restaurants, the gay beach, good bars with many entertaiments, nice hospitals - and the love, lovely boys.

And according to live in Denmark it is very cheap.

Now I stay in Denmark again because my bf want to earn money to build house and to the family- and he earn very good as cook in Denmark- he work in a thai restaurant in Copenhagen.
