It might put a few artisans at work, and perhaps reclaim a creative industry. But how practical and reliable? Sure, some mosiacs have lasted centuries, but the products used in ancient times are not the products permitted now. Plus, have you ever walked on wet ceramic? How about ceramic with a coating of snow? The lawyers would love it.

You may enjoy Fran Lenowitz's discussion of the topic in the Netflix special "Pretend it's a city" Being a practical kind of guy, for outdoor use I recommend porcelain tiles with a matt or textured finish!
