As in previous years a number of this board's members supported this project throught 2008 and I have recently completed a six week visit to Thailand to visit all of the initiatives we are supporting and where I had the pleasure of meeting some of the project's supporters and members of this board.

Where in Pattaya is the Ko Pai slum?

Where in Pattaya is the Ko Pai slum?

 

The KoPai (GoPai) slum is located in Soi Kopai, Second Road, Pattaya. Coming from Sukumvit Road the Soi is on the left.

 

I sponsor two children through this project both of who live on the KoPai slum and made my first visit to meet them with one of the trustees from the project in mid-January.

 

The slum has one main concentration of homes and an Early Learning Centre and then sprawls out over the length of Soi Kopai with small clusters of homes. The Soi itself seemed to have a few nice western style homes near to the end of the Soi. I understand that the slum is now classified as an 'official slum' as the land it stands on was donated to the city by the owner on the condition that it remains a slum and is not razed to the ground by the city.

 

I was informed that the slum itself is not the sort of place that welcomes strangers who should not visit unless they are accompanied by someone who knows and works with the residents, which fortunately we were.
