The Theory of Intelligence

Featured Replies

I love this explanation of the "theory of intelligence" from the TV show Cheers. Here is a converstion between Cliff and Norm.

'Well you see, Norm, it's like this . . . A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo; and when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

I will drink to that. Chok Dee Khrap.

I agree with Norm.

I agree with Norm.

I agree with Norm and will drink to that. Too bad, the theory is not working for me. I have been drinking like a madman for years and can't seem to kill off those weaker brain cells. Although I do feel smarter after a few beers.

Is it me or do you two mean you agree with Cliff. Am I reading it wrong?

I guess I should of said I agree with Cliff. If you remember the series, Norm was not someone to object to Cliff's theory.

I'm pretty sure it was Norm and not Cliff who said this.

I don't remember Cliff having any theories.

You are kidding, right?

Yes.
