Hello guys,

 

I am making my first trip to Pattaya in three weeks, it appears my timing was off a bit.

 

I am curious, for those there now, is it still safe or should I defer the trip to another time when things have settled out?

 

Also, when does the rainy season end? Seems like you guys have been getting an awful lot of rain lately......lol.......

You're perfectly safe coming to Pattaya and it was never unsafe to be here. Unless you were a guest at the Royal Cliff Hotel during the time of the siege, the worst that happened to anybody was getting caught up in traffic jams and inconvenienced. All the brouhaha here is over and everything is back to normal. The problems are now in Bangkok and that's where the problems are likely to stay.

 

As for the rainy season, it will end when it ends. That's the best anyone can tell you. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Usually when it rains, we get a heavy rain for about 45 minutes or so. An hour later, you wouldn't even know it had rained at all.

Thanks for the quick response, have traveled quite a bit but must say have never ventured into an area with so much upheaval. I can only imagine the economic impact this must be having on the area with people actually staying away. Also hope it does not drive the boys home......well I am still booked and planning on coming, hopefully it stays quiet and this forum calms other travelers on the fence such as myself.

Believe me, it won't. Many of the boys are going home anyway for Songkran, but then they'll be right back. They can't make any money at home and none of the protests are taking place anywhere near the gay venues.

 

In other words, as it stands now you have nothing to worry about. You might see military presence at the airport upon arrival, if they are deployed there when you come, but their purpose would be to make sure the airport remains open and accessible. They won't be there trying to frighten tourists.

 

In Pattaya now, as I said, everything is perfectly normal. You wouldn't even know, now, that anything is going on unless you're watching it all on television or checking the news web sites.

 

There really is no reason to even consider canceling travel plans now. I guarantee you, if there was anything to fear, I'd be on one of the first planes outta here.

I am also worried about coming to Thailand. I have a very anxious lad who will be disappointed if I don't come. Reading about tanks cruising the streets is a very frightening image.

 

I arrive on April 27. Will be staying at Unico Grande Silom in Bangkok. Is that anywhere near where the protesters are?

 

I'm not planning to go out much during the day, except maybe shopping, and to get the boy some dental work. At night, we probably will hit the bars.

No. You'll be fine there. You're a good three miles away from the brouhaha at your location, and that's a straight line distance.
