Anonymous Lady versus Thaksin

Who is she? That's the words on many people's mouths now. A mysterious Thai woman who has caused quite a stir on YouTube with two video clips attacking Thaksin Shinawatra looks ordinary enough, but her uploads are anything but.

 

One thing seems certain: She's very, very angry.

 

Her first video, named "Kill Thaksin", was put on the popular website about a week ago decrying Thaksin's suspected hand in the Songkran violence. It has drawn nearly 10,000 viewers and still counting fast.

 

Speaking in English with an American accent, she accused Thaksin of using money he "stole" from Thailand to pay protesters to run fiery riots during the Songkran festival. "Mr compulsive liar.....that money belongs to the country you @#$% idiot, not you," she said.

 

"You'd better @#$% stop doing it (destroying Thailand) right now or we will pitch in and hire someone to @#$% kill you and all your family members."

 

In her second video, posted on April 22, the woman again questioned Thaksin's proclaimed loyalty to the monarchy, saying fugitive former red-shirted leader Jakrapob Penkair had been running around spreading insulting information about the highest institution.

 

"Is this how you love Thailand, Mr Thaksin?" she asked.

 

The woman added that Thaksin had been telling the global media that innocent protesters have been killed in the country.

 

"Mr Thaksin, you are defaming your country. Is that how you want a better future for your Thailand?"

 

"If I were you, I would rather shut up, because the more you talk, the more people know what a liar, liar you are."

She is speaking English, but not with an American accent, it is a Thai accent.

Lady is definitely a crackpot. You just don't make your case very well when you combine your argument with threats to kill somebody and his family members.

 

As for the "American accent", she definitely is speaking American English versus British or Australian English and I presume that is what they meant. And, given she's Thai, it would be rather normal to speak with a Thai accent?

In the first video she is quite obviously very emotion and upset which doesn't necessarily make her a crackpot.

I agree with Bob - there are traces of American English in her accent. Also, I know of no Thais who would voice such obscenities in English on an international web-site, no matter how much they hate Thaksin. Nor would they dream of mentioning the Royal Family.

 

This is obviously a put-up job. She's an actress. Notice the way she always looks straight at the camera. If you have little experience in television, you automatically turn your eyes away from time to time. It's the normal reflex action when you speak to anyone. Speaking direct to camera requires a great deal of discipline, which she has.

 

Also, in the second clip, it's clear she has memorised the text. There are none of the "em's" "er's", "well's" and other hesitations we all normally use at the start of some sentences.

 

Too obvious, dear! Try to be less professional next time and it will have more effect!

I tend to think this is completely her own doing. Maybe she had someone behind the camera holding up cards for her to read from or something, but I think the idea for this and the words are her own, although she may have worked with other people on what she was going to say.

Look at her eyes! You can always tell from the slight movement of the pupils when someone is reading. Even professional TV presenters have slight eye movement - and their script is projected right in front of the lens of a very expensive professional camera. If she was reading from cue cards, she would have to be constantly looking slightly away from the camera. This lady is definitely not reading. In the second clip, she has certainly memorised exactly what she is saying.

When people are emotionally distraught and upset they may say things that are not within their norm.

Looks like mad cow disease and not swine flu has arrived.
