As of June 1st, BBC Entertainment channel will be dropped from True Visions. I called for an explanation and was told that the contract was up and it would be replaced with AXN Beyond by popular demand. What populace demanded it I don't know. I surely wasn't polled. BBC Entertainment has many programs that I enjoy. I looked up AXN Beyond and found nothing I would be interested to watch.

The "popular demand" bit is nonsense! The fact is that BBC Entertainment has increased its subscription fee to rebroadcasters and True has refused to pay it. Public demand had nothing to do with it. I assume AXN Beyond is considerably cheaper.

 

I do not pay the extra for the Platinum package and so am not affected by the change. However, I do believe True is now using its monopoly on paid cable/satellite channels in the country to the detriment of viewers. When cable was in its infancy here, there were 2 broadcasters and a degree of competition. Since they merged about 10 years ago, we're stuck with just True. I assume politicians' personal business interests will mean there's no chance of ever again getting a second one.

As long as the right person's brother-in-law is getting rich, you're probably correct. That seems to be the way just about everything works in Thailand.

Of course, I didn't fall for that line of crap, but there is nothing we can do. The problem is I like Star World and it is only available with Platinum or Silver packages.

Out here in Satillite land, we don't get FOX or MSNBC. You can have CNN International, BBC, or business channels Bloomberg or CNBC International Business.

 

I get all the podcast from MSNBC to get my politcial "fix" as often as available.

Whaddayamean "out here"?? In the metropolis of Bangkok most of us are stuck with the satellite signal, which at this time of year drops out when every major rainstorm comes along. I reckon we should all be getting rebates for the all that loss of signal.

Try this. Have a friend back home, where ever home may be, buy a "Sling Box" for $200 to $300US, hook it to their cable or satalite feed back home, plug it into their Internet connection, and you watch your home town TV anywhere in the world over the Internet. You can even view everything right on you TV in Thailand by just running a hard wire from you computer to your TV.

The problem I have with that, is that my computer and sling box must both be at the US site to get started..so I am told...and that this can cause heavy traffic on the friends computer???

Your computer needs to be with you, not in the USA or with the Sling Box. Although it may slow down your friends Internet connection because of the time difference he would be sleeping or at work most of the time that you are using the Sling Box. If not it would be cheap enough to upgrade your friends Internet service to the best available.

Thanks but Sophon don't have BBCE ... there is a payable satellite service whereby you can get BBCE South Africa, and BBC Lifestyle, and a host of other stuff ... downside is that transmission times suit the SA time zone not Thailand ... but a DVD recorder can sort that!
