For me it is about one month. I love it in this great paradise but longer stays I tend to get in a rut. Maybe that is a good thing for until I can retire here, I think one month is about right for me.

I've been here 4 1/2 years and not sick of it yet. I do, however, take frequent trips away just for a change.

The last few years I have planned 3 week trips but that includes time traveling in Thailand and other places in SE Asia. This year I have a month planned. Most of that time around Thailand but about 10 days in Vietnam as well.

 

Last year's trip extended to a month due to the airport closure. I don't like to just stay in one place for a long time or I get a little bored.

For me, it depends on where that one place is. Personally, I love living in the place that would be my first choice for a holiday. Every so often I like going somewhere else, for a change of pace. However, that makes me appreciate where I am all the more when I return.

I have no idea what the perfect length of time to stay would be....I've always had to leave before I got anywhere near that time. My vacation time is nowhere close to the amount of time that I would like to spend there. At some point, notwithstanding the current situation in LOS, I do plan to retire there and then I will find out for sure.

For me...like GB...it is for the rest of my life. I have a sister in Las Vegas, so visit there about once a year for a few weeks.

The positive side of that is it's better to leave a place, still wanting more, than to leave a place, swearing never to return.

 

I think in my case, one of these days I'll have to give Kuala Lumpur another try. I went there only once and hated ever second of it. I swore never to return. But then I read other people's posts about what a wonderful time they have there, and I wonder if we were in the same city. So, when I want one of those 'change of pace' trips, I think I'll give Kuala Lumpur a second chance.

KL has changed significantly over the past 10-15 years. It is a large very metropolitan city and nearly everyone speaks English well. Prices are a little higher than in Thailand, but not sky high. I think it is best to make a contact from the internet before you go, someone who will show you around. Stay in the area they call the golden triangle for easy access to sights and shopping. A city tour when you first arrive is the best way to get an overview of the city.

Most of those that work can't stay long enough due to lack of vacation time.

If money or time was not a constraint then I think a month would be about right. I'd spend significant time in Europe.

I have found that three months works well; two months on a tourist visa plus a 30 day extension. By then I am ready to return home to visit Dr. Frankenstein for a few months of revitalization for the next trip.
