Is it really "breaking news" all these alerts they send out? It had caused me to take my name off their list. They seem to send them out daily just to get visitors to their site. I understand if something is important but it has been almost daily I get a breaking news alert over some BS.

I participated in TV's survey last month and at some point I agreed to having sms's send with breaking news.

Since a week or so, I receive 5-10 sms's on a daily bases from TV and the Nation with breaking news + openings and closing figures of Dow Jones and SET.

 

Rather annyoing, so I tried to get rid of these sms's. Contacted the TV support dept. and I got a phone number........*4xxxxxx. This should stop the sms's.

At the moment, the sms's are still coming, but luckily......Dow Jones and SET are on hold in the weekend :-)

 

Last Friday I gave my phone number to the support dept. of TV and I really hope that they can sort things out.

It took a while, but I was assured I would receive no more. Surprise! I kept getting them. So I saved them, and in Chiang Mai last month went to the Air Asia office again, the girl remembered me, fiddled with her computer, then reassured me there would be no more. Surprise! I had this same problem. I was at MBK last week and asked the guy there about his. He called 1-2 Call and had them take me off the SMS list and he also played with my SMS settings a bit. I don't know what he did but I have not been on any mass SMS lists since.

The only way I know is to change your phone number and never give out the new one to any businesses. And then you have to pray that the number isn't an old one that someone else no longer has. Either way, sooner or later they'll catch up somehow to your number again. If you have to call one of the businesses, don't call from your mobile phone. As soon as you do, via Caller ID, now they'll have your number.

 

Even if you do get another phone number, I don't know whether that will help. The company, 1-2-Call, DTAC, or whatever obviously has your number. I'm not sure whether they sell telephone number lists or not, but I do know that I quite often get text message and graphic message ads from companies I've never heard of. I don't know where else those companies could have gotten my phone number.

 

I've learned to just live with it. When the ads come in, I simply delete them later without bothering to read any of them. Half of them are in Thai anyhow.

When I was badgered by an ex bf, I was able to block calls (for a fee, of course) to my mobile, but not SMS. I ultimately got a new number.

I'm sure you're right. I first thought Thai Air Asia got my number from an on-line booking I made a couple of years ago when the booking form demanded a mobile number. But the flight schedule/cancellation notices I received were all in English, and ceased after the flights. The new Thai ones only started about 4 months ago. Guess they're less offensive than some of the spam email I get promising all sorts of weird and wonderful changes to a certain part of my anatomy.
