I have heard about problems with Yaba and many other drugs in Thailand. I have seen X in the clubs and even cocaine. Most Thai guys can't afford the high end stuff and I guess that limits them to their choices. Yaba and Weed seem to be the most popular and affordable for most of the guys that work in the bars. A recent article on CNN made me think back to my time in NYC when Ketamine was the big thing. If I remember correctly (never done any illegal drug myself other than weed) I think they would use Crystal for an up and Ketamine to come down. Reading the CNN article, it seems that Ketamine is on an upward motion in Asia. Have any of your seen this in Thailand?

I suppose that topics such as this might be of vague interest to the sort of idiot who could end up doing time in Thailand for drug offences. You could argue that it might be helpful to know exactly what a young Thai might be high on to get him into the bar where he works and then home with you later.

However, these detailed little posts which disguise an interest in something as really being a search for knowledge are quite dangerous. They have been seen before many times. For example, when a post comes along saying something like 'how awful the underage problem is' but gives enough detail in its message so that someone who has an interest in such things ends up knowing exactly where to go and when.

Still, I guess it takes all sorts to make up a message board.

If there is one thing I hate on earth it is illegal drug use. I have lost many friendships over it and many boyfriends. I abhor the use of them. I do not now, nor will I ever have an interest in using them or having anyone around me use them.

 

What I do want to know is if those in the club scene have seen an increase in this particular drug.

 

My first lover in NYC was a "party" boy. We were together for 5 years. At first he used once a month or every 2-3 months. Over time, this increased. He used Crystal and Ketamine and Extacy. Over time, it was weekly and then daily until I had to step away from the love of my life. Today, almost 20 years later, he is still into the same scene.

 

He tried to get me to use them and I refused. I have never had an interest in them. I have also never been drunk. I have no interest in alcohol. I have friends that drink and have no problem with it. I also have friend that do recreational drugs in USA and while I chastise them, I am still their friend. I do not allow it to be done when I am out with them or around. It is just not my thing. But, I do think any adult should have the ability to do whatever he or she chooses with their body, mind and life.

 

I do find the use of Yaba among the bar boys very epidemic. I have seen it with 90 percent of the ones I know. It saddens me. I wish it was non-existent. However, it is there. It is easy for them to get and there seems to be little consequences for them when they are caught with it.

 

I don't think asking the question is dangerous at all. I think it should be discussed.

When you are done you might consider why European prisons are not filled with drug offenders and Europe does not have 1/2 the problems we do in the USA.

Thai yaabaa (which litterally means crazy medicine)is just another name for the methampetamine called speed or any of the names listed above.

 

Use of yaabaa in Thailand is rampant. College kids in Chiangmai and Khon Kaen have told me it's fairly widely used even at the universities and bar kids have told me it's in wide use by a lot of the bar boys. And, while I can't remember what I was told about the cost, it really wasn't very expensive.

 

How to tell if somebody is using it? I doubt if you can unless you see them take it. The only classic sign I'm aware of is if you know somebody that goes through long periods (sometimes multiple days) without any sleep. Or, if their pupils are wide enough to drive a bus through, that's a fairly sure sign their high on something.
