Today, I downloaded To Wong Foo with Patrick Swayze as his death reminded me of that film. I also wanted to show the boyfriend. Being Thai, he understands the concept of ladyboys quite well but not drag queens. The movie was watched by him with many questions and he laughed out loud so many times I cannot count. We both had a great time watching the movie. If you have a Thai BF, buy this and watch it with him. They may find it as enjoyable as we did!

I don't think you're being quite fair, Keyes. The storylines are quite different, you know. Wong Foo dealt with the real emotions behind the facade of the queen and probably postulated the idea that queens are born and not made (as so many of our holy hollerers would have us believe) while Priscilla was about a drag queen father coming to terms with his wife and son - and himself in the various social roles a man of any orientation plays in his life.

 

I loved Terence Stamp in Priscilla (I hope I got the name right after all these years), but it was quite a different movie. While I also loved the idea behind both stories, that you can't be afraid to be what you are no matter what society thinks pr how many sacrifices you sometimes have to make, I will agree that Priscilla was the better movie, certainly.

I saw Priscilla first and when I saw Wong Foo, I kept think it was a rip off of Priscilla, but that's only MHO. I was not a fan of Swayze's for totally different reasons. This may have colored my opinion.

I honestly loved both movies. And while I am not a particular fan of Swayze's, I did like his 'queenly mum' turn in the movie. When are they going to make more movies like that again, I wonder?
