Well.........does anyone have any experience of the Bangkok s Bangkwang jail?

 

I was once at a bar in jomtiem area and i will never forget overhearing a expat saying to a tourist that when you are driving,its far better to let thais drive you off the road than get into arguments as he had been a visitor to the notorious bangkwang.

 

How would you survive if your a older man.

Im not sure if you can pay enough if you get your own room,and TV?

Does anyone know if they have the internet in there?

 

I mean some of the expats now in there were claiming they had some sort of "influence "in thai society ,well it didnt seem so.

Just because someone/people own a bar etc,it doesnt mean anything to the Thai law,which in my opinion is good.

Never spent any time there nor do I want or plan to, but I did google the jail and found some interesting reads.

40 years ago, when I lived in Taiwan, there was a rich husband and wife couple from Taipei who were imprisoned for hoarding rice. One of the newspapers did a spread on their prison accommodations. Having seen them, others like me wanted to know the particulars about hoarding rice so that we could enjoy those same privileges. Unfortunately for this couple, cornering the rice market at the time was a capital offense and shortly later they were hanged.

Shoot ahead to Thailand plus 40 years and the situation bears a marked resemblance (less the hanging). If you have enough money you can probably serve your time in the warden's quarters. Incidentally, many high profile rich criminals in the USA, Haldeman and Erlichmann come to mind - often get country club accommodations. The great crime boss, Vito Genovese, ran his family from prison.

I'm sorry , i have to take serious issue with this anonymous know-all expat. Well, for sure nobody wants to end up there, but what are the chances, honestly, of somebody involved in a non-fatal RTA being sentenced to incarceration in that hell-hole? Let a Thai madman drive me off the road, hell no, I'm as hotblooded as the next guy behind the wheel.

That can get you into serious trouble in Thailand.

I suppose we all get angry,especially if someone cuts us off whilst driving or tailgates you.

Its how we control our anger that really matters,sometimes i cant,sometimes i can.

 

Even in thailand,i got angry when i was overcharged in a very small backstreet Sunee internet cafe,it wasnt the money it was the principle,along with the lady being rude to me when i was polite to her.
